I'm interested for a couple of reasons in finding out who is flying their RV-10 into OSH this year, and what days they plan to arrive and depart. One reason it to give Jeff a heads up for space, and the other reason is for a little video/photo project I may undertake. I'm sure the list is curious as well. Sooooooo, who's going, and when? I'm flying in either Friday night (preferred) before the show, but definitely by Saturday noon, and then I likely will leave either Friday or Saturday towards the end of the week. I'll try to keep a tally so we have it in one email after a bunch have reported. -- Tim Olson - RV-10 N104CD - Flying do not archive

    From: "John Cox" <johnwcox@pacificnw.com>
You may find the cohesive quality of the product to itself exceeds the construction strength of the insulation covering. It may require replacement of insulation down the road. The issue of not using any glue is a good one. The objective should be the regular removal for inspection for corrosion at each Conditional with the ability to re-apply the insulation on reassembly. We use Orcon insulating blankets (in our fleet) which are laid in, easy to remove and easy to reinstall. The only unfortunate issue is the wicking of moisture and keeping the insulation dry through the life of the aircraft. Hardcoat and adhesive obstruction a quality inspection. 8:30AM Monday - Dan Newland (formerly of Orcon) is speaking on "Practical Reductions of Aircraft Noise" in the 09 Honda pavilion at OSH. Dan wrote an article on the subject for Sport Aviation a couple of years ago that I posted to the archives. Don't forget thermal as well as acoustic qualities. Moisture kills the thermal characteristics. Hmm, I think someone is a bit over reactive. They are no worse than normal and the really bad spells are within a week or so of really heavy rains. I've noticed a significant drop with the drier weather in the last week and keep in mind I'm only 30 miles away, in a wooded area, on a river. :) Oh ya, no shortages on bug spray that I've seen or heard of but it never hurts to be prepared. Make sure you get the real stuff with around 20% DEET and you'll never have a problem. It's that initial set of assumptions you make - (1) "Assuming you are still constructing and have the tail off" (2) "(did not remove top shelf)" Many folks have the tail on. Taking it off and putting it back on, in addition to removing the rivets on the top shelf makes for much more time. Most of the asphalt or rubber based products are far too heavy for aircraft . Unfortunately most of the really good methods add a lot of weight or are very bulky so you just need to look at the different products and find a g ood compromise.

Well, I've been to Canada where the mosquitoes are as big as some of the hawks that we have down here in Wisconsin, but this year so far by us (we're not quite as rained-on as OSH) I'd have to say is one of the lightest years for skeeters than I remember. Have only had one bug-spray day this season. No shortage in stores....just saw it on sale again this weekend. I don't know that at OSH I've ever had to use it....so it would truly be unique if it were that bad this year. I'd say bring some if you got some, but I surely wouldn't worry about not being able to get your hands on any. 20%? In Alaska nothing short of 100% DEET was considered effective. ;-) Of course it dissolved most nylon and plastic items. I have been told that Wisconsin Beer, Cheese and Brats cause a similar Deet chemical reaction for locals. Wally World down south of OSH is the closest large supplier of the Deet products. I believe the smoke from the airshow planes is the same as they use in the bug foggers. We'll just have to get Sean Tucker to make a few low passes over the camp grounds. Hi Michael I am not sure what kind of girly mosquitoes you have where you are, but up here in Canada where the mosquitoes regularly have transponder codes and have been known to clean out blood banks, we prefer our DEET in the 95% variety. Check this out: http://www.amazon.com/Woods-Sportsmen-Insect-Repellent-Spray/dp/B0000CBJBD I spoke to the people I will be staying with today and asked about the mosquitoes. My friend John said that they were bad this year. If you are camping especially, I suggest you get the real stuff. For the newbies, I also strongly suggest good head gear and a sunblock with a double digit SPF rating - something appropriate for the surface of the sun. The tarmac at KOSH can cause brutal sunburn. Hydration is also a big concern. I bring a camel back that I freeze overnight (you can also fill with ice) that keeps me cool during the day. Bottled water at KOSH costs 3 times as much as AVGAS so be prepared. Usually there is a water truck just outside the main gate as well as a couple of water stations on the grounds where you can get *free* running water to refill your water bottles. I would also bring a small bottle of hand sanitizer as the biffies don't always have hand wash stations nearby.
