I've used a set of the Wilkerson tires (retreads) for several hundred
hours on my RV-6A. No problems, and they sure do appear to exhibit
longer tread life than I experienced using new tires. I'll use
      Wilkerson tires again.

I'm guessing that it matters how far you have the pins going into the
      blocks.

My switches work in the normal Van's spec'd position but I have the pins
going slightly thru the door frames. That may change later so this is
      good to know. Thanks

to get the magnets in the system to activate the little magnetic switches
in the door frame at a 90 degree angle as shown in the Vans door kit plans.
The smaller magnets in the Rivethead-Aero door pins may not activate the little
magnetic switches at that 90 degree angle. I had to put the magnetic switches
pointing directly at the Rivethead-Aero door pins to get them activated. The
magnetic switches need to be mounted on the skin pointing dead at the door pins
      - then they work fine. Nick probably saved me 5 hours of craziness figuring
      this out... :D :D :D :D :D :D

      Bob,

Thanks for the thanks, great pictures too! One of the reasons that I
enjoy staying as part of an RV-10 group is the afternoon/evening
chatter. I know that I learn a lot every year just sitting around and
listening. Now that I'm flying I find it very rewarding to pass along
things that I've picked up over time.

First, I would like to publically thank Bob, Gary, Michael, and Tim for
coordinating the RV-10 HQ Campsite at Airventure this year. Without
the efforts of these gentlemen (Brenda, Susan, and Andrea too) we
wouldn't have had the great experience we all had this year.

I know that I came away much more knowledgeable about the tasks in front
of me after talking with these gentlemen and the others that hung out at
the RV-10 HQ campsite. I find the camp site much more educational than
      most of the forums.

Unfortunately, my wife and I were late on Friday and didn't get a chance
to meet all the new folks that only made it to Friday's dinner. Friday
night got a little crazy for us. While attempting to listen to Lt.
Dan's Band, we got calls from our son who was stranded by United at
O'hare on his way home from Ellsworth AFB and our daughter upset that
her band camp got canceled due to a rabid bat being found in one of
their cabins. Things worked out well, even though it was hectic for a
      little while.

Janice and I had to bug out early for a 7:30 breakfast on Saturday. I
ended up getting a 5th place Web Editor award for our chapter's web site
that I just put up a couple weeks before the show. For those that we
didn't get to say goodbye, both Janice and I enjoyed meeting everyone.
Hopefully we'll get to do it all over again next year!

I've put a zip file with pictures from Saturday's dinner on my web site.
The site isn't officially online, but if you use the exact url, you
should be able to retrieve the files.

We'd like to pile on here and extend the same thanks to the RV-10
Campsite team - especially Bob & Susan and Gary & Brenda - for their
work, hospitality, and best of all, advice and counsel.

This being my 2nd year, I was looking forward to bringing Alicia this
      year. She was not disappointed!

We hope to make again next year, despite the minor inconvenience of
having to fly into Fond-du-Lac instead of the main show....

Does anyone know if the same size lock (5/8) used for the baggage door
would also work on the canopy doors? I don't know the if space between
the exterior door and the door rod requires a larger lock since I don't
have the doors yet, just a few extra 5/8 locks.
      Thanks!

| Subject: | WARNING: Epoxy filler |

      Hey kids,

I was just catching up on old DIGEST messages...and thought I needed to pos
t in regard to the message below.

I am using the West Systems Epoxy like most...but be warned about the 410 f
iller. It doesn't say it on the Aircraft Spruce site, nor in their catalog
, but you can't use this filler under dark colored paint. Apparently it's
not good to let the stuff heat up and expand. I don't know the exact detai
ls of what the 410 filler is comprised of..but on the WESTMARINE.COM site,
      it warns against it.

The ideal low-density filler for creating a light, easily-worked fairing co
mpound especially suited for fairing large areas. Microlight(tm) mixes with
greater ease than #407 Low-Density filler or microballoons and is approxim
      ately 30% easier to sand.
      * Feathers to a fine edge and is also more economical for large fai
      ring jobs.
      * Not recommended under dark paint.
      * Not recommended on surfaces subjected to high temperatures.
      * Cures to a tan color.

I am concerned that it will expand and 'POP', thus, I am not using 410 fill
er on anything. I spoke with another builder at Osh that thought it had "p
lastic" content. Again, I have not verified this. Do some homework before
you put this out in the sun on the tarmac. Especially if under dark paint
       or stripes.

I am using the high density filler for its adhesive and structural qualitie
s, and just ordered the 406 filler last night to try out. I have micro-bal
loons, Chopped Glass, cotton flox in my shop. I agree that the West filler
s are the best and easiest to work with and so I will stick with them.

      th it.

406 Colloidal silica is another one you'll use, along with one other that I
       can't remember right now.

You'll go through cans and cans of 410 by the time you're done with the pro
ject, and gallons of epoxy. People have no idea how much you can spend on
epoxy supplies to finish the kit...it's hundreds of dollars.

I don't know if this has been addressed before, but does anyone know what I need
to do to be able to listen to the DVD, XM, audio player I am installing in my
RV10 with headphones? There is no headphone output jack on the player. It
      only has wires for speakers.

how about if you connected it to the aux port in your audio panel? aka you
would use "aux" to listen to the DVD/XM music.

You will need to wire the output of the radio into your intercom and then most
likely put all the inputs into your stereo.
Which intercom and stereo are you using first and I bet we can look up the intercom
wiring online as well as the stereo system you are using.

I have a DVD/CD, XM radio, iPod all fed into my Pioneer stereo then to my PS Engineering
      intercom and it works great.
My stereo accepts the inputs and then outputs to the intercom through two wires.

On the PS Engineering intercom I have is a "karaoke" mode that allows the music
to keep playing even though I am talking or someone is talking to me. This is
      done through the MUTE button.
It shuts off if I pull the mic on.

It makes it really nice. I'm not sure if you can do that with the Garmin stuff.
I do know that on new planes with the G1000 or Avidyne anytime anyone talks
in the plane or radio it mutes the radio and then takes a second to come back
on. People who fly with these systems and then fly with me just love the fact
that the music keep playing in the background while I listen to radio calls.

I am using Garmin's audio panel for my intercom. The stereo I have is the Valor
ITS-720W Mobile Multi-Media System. Everything DVD, XM radio control, IPOD
input plug, FM radio are all installed in the unit. The output of the system
is eight wires. Two for each front speaker and two for each back speakers. There
is no two single wires for the audio panel. The system has a 35w x 4 amplifier
with 4.1 channel surround output. My concern is blowing the audio panel
with that much power. I was hoping to just provide a jack in the panel for
my LightSpeed headset to plug into. The LightSpeed headsets allows me to listen
to one thing and my wife listen to another by plugging a separate device into
      the other headset box.

You cannot plug any low power device like headphones or an audio panel directly
into high power outputs like speaker feeds. They will blow the headphones
or audio panel in short order. There are devices out there that will take a high
level speaker feed and give you low level outputs but you will eventually
toast the amplifier without it connected to speakers to use some of the power
up. Without the amp you will have nothing. It seems odd that something with
all that capability doesn't have low level out on it but if that's truly the case
you are better off selling it on eBay or returning it for something that has
      low level out's.

I couldn't find the 720 model, but most of Valor's units have RCA level outputs.

      Check out the specs here:
      http://www.valordvd.com/product/productinformation.asp?pc=MSU&productid=ITS-710W

Wire two of those RCA level outputs (L+R) into the intercom's music source and
      you're good to go.

Awesome unit though! Is the screen pretty sturdy? I wouldn't want it to flap around
      in turbulence... :)
