I've used a set of the Wilkerson tires (retreads) for several hundred hours on my RV-6A. No problems, and they sure do appear to exhibit longer tread life than I experienced using new tires. I'll use Wilkerson tires again. My switches work in the normal Van's spec'd position but I have the pins going slightly thru the door frames. That may change later so this is good to know. Thanks Bill AirMike wrote: > > Just worked on my door-open warning system yesterday with my electronics guru and RV10 builder "Nick" from Sacramento. Nick pointed out the it is very difficult to get the magnets in the system to activate the little magnetic switches in the door frame at a 90 degree angle as shown in the Vans door kit plans. The smaller magnets in the Rivethead-Aero door pins may not activate the little magnetic switches at that 90 degree angle. I had to put the magnetic switches pointing directly at the Rivethead-Aero door pins to get them activated. The magnetic switches need to be mounted on the skin pointing dead at the door pins - then they work fine. I am using the West Systems Epoxy like most...but be warned about the 410 f iller. It doesn't say it on the Aircraft Spruce site, nor in their catalog , but you can't use this filler under dark colored paint. Apparently it's not good to let the stuff heat up and expand. I don't know the exact detai ls of what the 410 filler is comprised of..but on the WESTMARINE.COM site, it warns against it. The ideal low-density filler for creating a light, easily-worked fairing co mpound especially suited for fairing large areas. Microlight(tm) mixes with greater ease than #407 Low-Density filler or microballoons and is approxim ately 30% easier to sand. * Feathers to a fine edge and is also more economical for large fai ring jobs. * Not recommended under dark paint. * Not recommended on surfaces subjected to high temperatures. * Cures to a tan color. I am concerned that it will expand and 'POP', thus, I am not using 410 fill er on anything. I spoke with another builder at Osh that thought it had "p lastic" content. Again, I have not verified this. Do some homework before you put this out in the sun on the tarmac. Especially if under dark paint or stripes. I am using the high density filler for its adhesive and structural qualitie s, and just ordered the 406 filler last night to try out. I have micro-bal loons, Chopped Glass, cotton flox in my shop. I agree that the West filler s are the best and easiest to work with and so I will stick with them. Great stuff, sands well. The guy who helped paint was impressed as heck wi th it. 406 Colloidal silica is another one you'll use, along with one other that I can't remember right now. You'll go through cans and cans of 410 by the time you're done with the pro ject, and gallons of epoxy. I have a DVD/CD, XM radio, iPod all fed into my Pioneer stereo then to my PS Engineering intercom and it works great. My stereo accepts the inputs and then outputs to the intercom through two wires. On the PS Engineering intercom I have is a "karaoke" mode that allows the music to keep playing even though I am talking or someone is talking to me. This is done through the MUTE button. It shuts off if I pull the mic on. It makes it really nice. I'm not sure if you can do that with the Garmin stuff. I do know that on new planes with the G1000 or Avidyne anytime anyone talks in the plane or radio it mutes the radio and then takes a second to come back on. People who fly with these systems and then fly with me just love the fact that the music keep playing in the background while I listen to radio calls. They will blow the headphones or audio panel in short order. There are devices out there that will take a high level speaker feed and give you low level outputs but you will eventually toast the amplifier without it connected to speakers to use some of the power up. Without the amp you will have nothing. It seems odd that something with all that capability doesn't have low level out on it but if that's truly the case you are better off selling it on eBay or returning it for something that has low level out's.
