Countersink is on it's way to Pascal.- By the way, I had my brothers shop
punch out some brackets to hold the front belts up to the canopy when not
in use.- Pics attached.- They're stainless.- I can punch out any quan
tity, so for postage and $5.... let me know.-
Plan is to micro-balloon 2 nutplates into the canopy.

You might want to consider bending the tips of the bracket up so that the

abrade the belt material against the fiberglass each time you replace the
belt on the bracket.

This is a picture of a bracket I bent. Note the tips up at the outboard
sides of the bracket. I pull the racket down and insert/remove the belt. No
scraping of the nyloon material on the glass. Of course if you have leather
there it may be a non issue.

I don't have my calipers with me, but we left .25" for the belts with just
a slight bend upward on the ends to hold the belts.- Can't see where ther
e would be any clamping.- And the parts were tumbled, so there are no bur
rs to create any fraying.- Where you-maybe-thinking that the center s
ection of the bracket was not flush with the top of the canopy?

Why did you need to do anything with customs? I would think the assembly

not what is covered on the order form.

Subject: | MT propeller vs. Hartzell |
Who has the closest RV-10 with an MT prop to Portland OR?
I would like to compare the speed of my RV-10 with the Hartzell three blade
to it.

First time on the forum even though I have been reading it daily and finding it
very helpful for over a year...
I am presently looking for a good deal on an engine for my RV10. I have found 2
mid-time engines, but I'm not sure that either will fit Van's motor mounts.
One engine is a O- 540-A2B. The other is a O-540-A1D5.
I called Van's and they advised me that the Lycoming engines had to have a #1 dyno
mounting style. They were kind enough to send me a certified Lycoming aircraft
engines model designation breakdown, but I still do not have any idea of the mounting
style of either engine.
If any of you have installed either engine or knows if they will fit Van's engine
mounts, let me know.
Another subject: My wife and I had the pleasure of attending and and camping with
the RV10 at Airventure this year. It was fun to match faces to the writings
on this forums. (We had the motor home with the big trailer.)
Airventure truly has something for everyone. I went there for the airplanes; my
wife thought it was a craft fair. Thank goodness for the Craft Tent!
Thanks to all who helped make the camp such a success. Next year, my wife, Diane,
and I would like to contribute by fixing a Texas Barbeque brisket dinner
for one night's dinners.
Thank you for any and all advice,
Tony Dubeansky

Tony,
Looking forward to the BBQ!
Either of those will work. The 540 engines have mount ears that determine exactly
what they will mate up with. The ones that you need are Lycoming part number
70456 and have the smaller holes (about 1.25" diameter). These just bolt
on and are replaceable if you wind up with the wrong ones. They are available
new (expensive) or used (the Rocket builders need the large hole mount ears).

For archival and reference purposes, Tim O. has collected a LOT of info from over the last few years and has it at http://www.myrv10.com/tips/index.html. If you look at the Engine Tips link from that page you'll find info on the mount ears, engine model details and a lot of other stuff.

Mine came in the box from the factory assembled and tested...Jim said it wa
s the easiest way..and short of customs...it was. Since it came FedEx inter
national customs required the package to be declared and inspected...of whi
ch I wasn't good enough to do along with them.

I admit that deceiving since Van's specifically states when ordering- "Pr
ices include shipping from Germany to the nearest assembly center (see reve
rse). The customer is responsible for choosing the appropriate assembly cen
ter, assembly charges and shipping charges (if any) between the assembly ce
nter and final destination."
-
Why did you need to do anything with customs? I would think the assembly ce
nter receives the prop and if they do nothing and have you pick it up (at t
he assembly centert) than that meets what is advertised, otherwise not what
is covered on the order form.

I had to pay an import agent $250 to get mine out of customs, customs would
not deal directly with me. There is no duty for personal use items. It was
a real pain dealing with customs, the agents were not polite, helpful or s
hould I jsut say they were typical of most government agencies I've dealt w
ith...BUT He did manage to whip out a whole list of import agents within a
mile that he would be happy to deal with instead of me. Soooooo my next air
plane will have an American made product on the nose thanks to the BS.

All said and done, does anyone know what the cost are on the shipping of th
e prop to an MT assembly center, the cost of assembly and then the cost bac
k to your door step. These are additional costs that need to be worked into
the equation.

Subject: | Re: MT propellers |
I bought mine from Jim at Less Drag Products and he had iit sent
assembled from Germany. Saved me some bucks doing it that way. It has
to be shipped to an airport with customs, but that worked for me in
Minneapolis. I had to pay a customs broker a few bucks to shepherd it
through the government maze, but it was still quite a bit cheaper
than sending it to the nearest assembly center, (Chicago in my case)
paying for assembly, and then paying to have it sent to me or driving
six hours each way to pick it up myself.
