Subject: | 51% Deadline Approaching |
The NW RV-10 Builders completed a remarkable dinner on Saturday night at
the home of Randy & Cheryl DeBauw (First flying RV-10, N610RV). We were
fortunate enough to have both Dick and Diane Van Grunsven (N410DV) in
attendance. Dick shared with all of us his personal perspective and
experience as Co-Chair on the ARC Committee. The deadline for written
comments is now just three weeks away - September 30th. The FAA would
truly like to hear from you. Painfully, very few builders have written
comments on this important policy changes.
One of our members who could not attend asked that I forward to all of
you, the information from the EAA perspective (the body the FAA chose to
run with on this) and the contact on how to make your comments known.
It is not important your politics, or politically correct affiliation.
It was too easy to forget that not every member of this list is an EAA
member and may or may not have already heard about the process. Several
foreign countries are watching the direction the U.S. FAA takes on kit
built aircraft policy.
Please find attached, two PDFs on the EAA recommended position (for
reference only 12 pages) and both the email or the US Postal address
(two pages) for your needed written comments.
Thanks
John Cox

I made a flight from Yuma to Southern Idaho and return last week and
recorded the following:
OAT ALT RPM MAP GPH TAS
64f 7500' 2200 22.5 12.9 154k
50f 10500' 2150 20.7 11.2 155k
45f 11500' 2260 20.1 12.2 154k
Engine is IO540 with 10:1, single Lightspeed, ACI 3 blade. WOT leaned to
approx 100 ROP.
Also, FYI, Fillmore, UT (KFOM) 100LL was $4.419.

Subject: | Garmin GPS496 Antenna & XM antenna mounting |
I have my GPS 496 in an Air Gizmo holder in my panel
After expending considerable anxiety trying to decide where to put the 2 antennas
for my 496 (principal nav device) unit. I decided against putting them on a
shelf in the engine compartment. I put them both on the glare-shield on the advice
of Bob at Garmin. I hard wired and screwed the GPS antenna into the glare-shield.
The XM is another case........
You have to procure two (2) metric M3x6 screws to fit the bottom of the XM antenna.
You want to make the XM antenna removable form the aircraft so that (if you
want) you can get satellite weather at home. I fabricated a bracket that fits
on top of the glare-shield and is removable. The XM antenna is screwed to
the bracket and the bracket unhooks from the glare-shield with one screw. You
also need a 1/4" hole in the top of the glare-shield to push the wire and mini-USB
cable through. My first though was to get another XM antenna. NO NO NO......
The XM WX subscription is dedicated to the antenna NOT the GPS 496 unit.
Many thanks to Bob at Garmin Aviation division

I put velcro on my XM antenna to hold it on the glare shield so I can swap
it between the RV-6A and RV-10.

Mike,
You know that AirGizmos also sells an XM Antenna Dock that
allows you to remove & use the ($500) XM antenna else ware. I purchased
an Antenna Dock Premium at SNF 2 years ago.
http://www.airgizmos.com/antennadock.asp
Of course it's not as inexpensive as two M3x6 screws.
