      David,

I installed a alternate static source that I got from Safeair1
      http://www.safeair1.com/SA1_products/AirKits.htm They sell a complete
pitot static system that I think is quite good. This alternate air is
very simple to install, you just put a connector inline to your
pitot/static system with a pull cord to activate the alternate air. I
installed the alternate air under the panel just forward of my left
knee so I can just reach down and pull out the quick release plug if I
      need to.

Some time today, I should finish the second door installation. That is on the
hinges and trimmed to fit. Van's plans say to next install the windows. I would
like to hold off and complete the locking hardware before I install the windows.
I would like to hold off for several reasons, one being weight as the door will
be on and off many more times and also to minimize the possibility of scratching
      them.

My question is, is there any valid reason against moving the installation of the
windows to after the door lock hardware is installed?

I used McMaster-Carr P/N 6791T13, for $11. It works great. It was in the
system for the static check to 20,000'--no leaks.

      Gary,

I don't see any reason you couldn't hold off until after the mechanisms are
installed. It shouldn't make any difference.

Hopefully, we can keep the PRICE low enough to make it worthwhile for every

I'll try and get them to produce 20 of them and I'll guess and say the pric

      Aluminum, will be the material.

| Subject: | Mounting GRT AHRS & Magnetometer |

While I"m leaning toward AFS, when I was considering GRT, I built this AHRS "shelf"
      just aft of the firewall.
      http://nerv10.com/wcurtis/08fuselage/fuselage31f.html
      http://nerv10.com/wcurtis/08fuselage/fuselage31q.html

Since the magnetometer is separate from the gyro, I didn't see the need to mount
it any further from the displays only to run a bunch of wires to that location
when there is ready space in this location.

GRT has the footprint for their AHRS on their website and I used it to pre install
plate-nuts in the mounting positions. If I don't go with GRT I can always
      use it form something else.

      David,
There is also a panel mounted switch that somebody bought from McMaster-Carr.
Look for part number 6791T12 for $14.15 (metal switch) or 6791T13 for $11.51
      (plastic switch).

      David,

      I used something like these:
      http://www.discoverysciences.com/product.aspx?id=2258
      http://www.discoverysciences.com/uploadedFiles/Site_for_Catalog_2008/gc/GC_Accessories/Valves/valves.pdf
      https://www.technical-controls.com/product.asp?prodid=3422

You can get them locally I'm sure. There are parker distributors
all over the place. I used to deal with a parker rep from the cities
for our company when I worked at Cray/SGI. All this stuff
is easy to get. I didn't put mine on the panel...I put it just below
the left side air vent on the side panel. That's where they located
it on my old beech. It's easy enough to get to for the almost
never occasion that you'll need it.
