    From: "Michael Wellenzohn" <rv-10@wellenzohn.net>
Hi, I am using a composite cover inside of the doors to cover the lock and door handles mechanics. I now face the issue that I need to have threads in between the door shelfs to screw the cover to the door. Nutplates won't work since I do not have access. I read about rivnuts but I'd like to use epoxy and make the thread myself. Any ideas? How did you do it? Create a hard point. Use a small diameter stub of pipe. PVC? Fill with putty (epoxy, fibers and cabosil). Lastly drill and tap. -----Original Message----- From: owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Michael Wellenzohn Sent: Friday, December 05, 2008 3:08 AM Subject: RV10-List: How to create epoxy threads --> <rv-10@wellenzohn.net> Hi, I am using a composite cover inside of the doors to cover the lock and door handles mechanics. I am using aluminum rivnuts in several places to attach the Flightline Interior panels. Easy to install, lightweight and non-locking so you can continue to use the same screw after removal. I think that's maybe a first since Dan's. Is there any news on the Subies yet? It's been over a year since Dan's crash and at that time it sounded like there were quite a few that were "just around the corner"...but there hasn't been any news that I've heard since 2007. I'd have bet that the Subies would beat the V-8's into the air, but it doesn't look like that's the case. Will be nice to hear some flight reports once they spend some time getting good calibrated numbers. The funny thing is that the V8's seem to be less complicated to convert to our use. I guess there are enough off the shelf aftermarket components and excess HP in the small blocks to do the job. I have to say I was fairly impressed by the V8 I saw run at OSH. I haven't seen any info on the aileron trim and wondering if its a no brainier and everyone is installing it or not a issue on the -10?? I use my manual one all the time on my -7 but can only find a electronic one for the -10 on Van's web store. For the -10, the factory way is the electronic one. It's something that most people will want, as I've noticed with the RV-10's long-ish fuel tanks, there can be quite the imbalance as you fly. As far as I know there is no manual aileron trim options for the -10. I think most people are installing it given the amount of fuel onboard in the wings. If you are really good at managing your fuel balance you can get by without it I'm sure but it's not a huge expense in the grand scheme of things. Tim et al. notice today from Eggenfellner that the counterweights for the 4-bladed RV-10 props won't be delivered from Italy (Quinti) until late January. That's why things have gone quiet on the Subie front. In the mean time I've actually abandoned the Subaru idea (anyone want a Subaru E-6T FWF?) in favor of a Chevy LS1 package built by Bud Warren (Geareddrives). He performs his magic everyday in the same hangar I'm in, so for that reason and others, it just made a lot of sense to switch to his package. The package is simple, yet impressive and Bud is a real pleasure to work with. Pictures will be posted on the Geareddrives website shortly and flight reports will be forthcoming once we fly. We've had it running at idle speeds for checkout and it just purrs. This weekend we will run it up to higher power settings. If the Lord is willing and the creek doesn't rise, we should be at Sun N Fun '09. Can't understand why noone has suggested just floxing or micro-ballooning i n an odd shaped piece of aluminum.- The odd shape will keep it from spinn ing, and drilling and tapping is simple. Anyone have a copy of the Vans wiring kit instructions called the OP-37? I posted a PDF version a ways back but can't seem to find it on my hard drive. I have a request for it and want to avoid having to scan the pages again. Rick S. 40185
