Hi Brian,
Great! That is just what I wanted to hear. I've been thinking about the
upgrade for a while and wondering whether to do it or not considering the
eventual RV-10 completion. I'm glad to hear someone else considers it a
worthwhile upgrade. It appears to resolve most of my gripes about the 496. I
can't wait to take it up and put it through its paces.

Hello Patrick,
My wife and I did the exact same thing. We sold our 496 and got the 696.
It's really great!

Hi All,
I've decided to upgrade to the 696 and so I'm putting my 496 up for sale.
If anyone is looking for one, I figured I'd check with the list before
putting it up on ebay.
Unit is in excellent condition with all original accessories and box plus
one extra battery. I'm located in SoCal and anyone local is welcome to come
take a look first.
If anyone is interested feel free to make me an offer off list:
poneill@irealms.com.

I used Golden Eagle Flight Prep for a long long time before
switching to Voyager. You're right, it is excellent. No issue
there. It does you less computer resources too. I don't think I
can say anymore that it "gives you more", because there are so many
things that Voyager does that G.E. doesn't, but Golden Eagle is
certainly great software. I had G.E. + Chart Case Express and one
of the disappointments if you go to a full in-flight + preflight
system is that those 2 functions were very separate. If you are
looking at their products for both purposes, you may want to go
with one of the higher ones that combines the functions. With
Voyager that's what I did, bought the EFB level so it was all
integrated. Voyager beats flightprep and their related stuff
hands down though for number of feature.
Also, Chris is right, on numerous occasions I've written Seattle
Avionics an email about something I wanted to learn, or report
something when I was beta testing 4.0, and it was surprising that
you really got attention and response right away.
Chris, I'd love to hear what you use on your iPhone, too. Scott
has such a great time with his iPhone that I got myself an
ipod Touch + EVDO data service on my cell + a Cradlepoint PHS300
wireless hotspot. Now, although cheaper and more widely-useful
for other people and devices, I have WiFi almost anywhere if I
need it, and I find myself using my iPod for more and more things
while on a flying trip. Awesome stuff. Would be cool if Voyager
decided to do some integrated flight planning for the iphone.

Definitely cowl first. Then when it all fits, you can remove
and reinstall the cowl dozens of times as you trim the baffling
lower and lower into position, and know that it will all fit with
the proper clearance. Without the cowl fit, you may not get the
baffling trimmed to the right position.

Should I fit the cowl (upper & lower) now or is it best to do the baffling

I use ForeFlight on my iPhone and it's really nice. Now the phone downloads the

yup. Foreflight is the best app for the Iphone that I've found so far.
it's a one-time cost of about $75 for the app, no subscription fees or
anything. It does weather, AF/D, and tons of other stuff.
www.foreflight.com
I use it constantly. There are some cheaper apps that work ok too, but
this one is the slickest and most useful.

HA!!!!!!!!! You guys are hillarious! :) I think you'll
like the tablet. It sure beats buying and swapping all
the paper charts you would want. If someone had tons of
funds, I'd buy the fastest hardware I could get, but
it works ok for what it does.
I'm still laughing at Bob's post too about the CF card.
It works pretty good in the tablet. I'm just glad I got
a 32GB iPod Touch, because it was half full (or is that
half empty?) before I got ForeFlight. Can't wait to
see how it works though.
On a more serious note, one thing about Voyager, as with
any radio/gps or other technical item, you will be more
and more pleased with it the more you actually use it.
Most complex user-interface items get frustrating as you
first learn them, until you find either A) the proper
way to use them, or B) the way that works best for your
needs. I say this because things like pulling up approaches,
getting airport info, and things like that can be done
multiple ways on that software, and some are easier
than others. So, just as with flying the plane, invest
the proper time into "education" and you'll be much
happier.

For Sale: Continental IO-470G (260-Hp, originally on a C-310). Baker,
FL (18FD).
My hangar-mates have scrapped a Barracuda (all-wood, two-seat, go-fast
plans-built).
The builder had it ready to fly, fell ill and died. It sat for several
years, and recent inspections of the airframe raised concerns about
preparing it for return to service.
At the very least, the engine needs an IRAN - we consider it a core.
Make Offer.

Subject: | Matco RV-10 Nosewheel Axle replacement write-up |
Last night I installed the new Matco axle in my RV-10. It
looks like it should work out way better than the original.
http://www.myrv10.com/N104CD/upgrades/20090120
From my perspective, things started off truly unsafe and
miserable. This is now basically my 4th "try" at making
things perfect.
#1. Stainless spacers - trashing my fork
#2. Large washers protecting fork, Stainless spacers rotation
locked.....much better from a wear perspective.
#3. Use Van's new parts provided after SB was put out.
This was a better situation than the original by FAR.
But, it is also far from ideal, and is pretty crappy
from a bearing preload perspective, and they STILL
didn't provide anti-spin for the spacers.
#3. Matco's replacement axle. It's far nicer, and basically
fixes all of the issues that the original one has.
I would encourage all of you RV-10 builders to at absolute
minimum, do some sort of mod to make Van's spacers anti-spin.
You will still have to do far more checking of nosewheel
bolt torque if you want to prevent issues over time, but that
in itself would be a step up. But really, for the low cost of
this axle, I think it should just be one of those things that
everyone does....just like the axle extensions on the main gear.
Don't wreck something or live with a poor standard design.

I'm not sure if the backlog is shipping. I ordered the
weekend before it was known by most people that they were
even available, and my order was one of the first in.
I think they ran out right away shortly after.
I did just get a little feedback from George at Matco
tonight, who I sent the link for the write-up to. He
says the following:
------------------------
"The installation drawings are also linked on our website on the
WHLAXLE24 product page.
Did you balance your tire? It made a huge difference for Scott and is
easy to do with the center hole in the axle.
The wheel for the 5.00-5 tube is the WHLNW511.25. It is machined
differently to accommodate the longer stem on the 5.00-5 tube. We offer
an inexpensive exchange (under $20) for those who have not yet mated the
tire. We can replace one half of the wheel if the tire has already been
mounted for about $60. The wheel needs to be sent here to have it done.
------------------------
There you go, more info to consider, if you're building.
