Michael said: Hi guys, I want to mount a com antenna on top. The tape comm antenna I understand is not an option for the -10. I don't see why the problems with the tape antennas would be any different in the -10. The only problem I'm aware of is that the comm antennas are vertically polarized, and the signal strength suffers when they're horizontal. OK, we're not talking 1/2 way around the world here. I hear transmissions a couple hundred miles away (vertically polarized antennas)when I fly ...... but I'm usually within 10 miles of an airport when I check in ...... so I fail to see the 'problem' with the tape antennas laying horizontal other than the antenna 'pointing' at the destination. So, just place the antenna sideways ..... like across the cabin top or bend it like that 'belly' whip. Help me out here guys!!! What am I missing??? I use one for my 2nd comm radio and it works great. My bent whip on the bottom goes to the primary radio, but I've had great luck with the tape and use it to talk to ground control and Unicom radios without any issues. Plus it's the cheapest game in town by a long shot. I ran the comm cord up the cabin support tube and tie the shield to the mount screw and the center to the tape with one piece of fiberglass to cover the tape and hold it in place. I had a bunch of Ham radio guys come out and look at it - they put a meter on it and told me it is electrically too short for the frequencies I was trying to use.
