Drilling stainless steel works best with high bit pressure and low temperature, which requires lubrication and SLOW bit speed and if the piece is thick enough, frequent cooling breaks. Paul Hahn

I only used it for the s.s. or really thick al. parts. And there is a difference in drill bits, some work better/longer. I haven't tried a bit sharpener yet, might be worth getting, I'm sure someone has and will chime in. Boelube, Lots of oil, Cooltool, something. Then use lots of pressure and get the cutting done. SS work hardens. If you get it hot, it gets harder, so you have to be aggressive. Have fun. Thanks for sharing. I really like those modified ribs on the sub-panel you made - I did some snooping. Are you a machinist? That's awfully nice work. John -------- #40572 QB Fuselage, wings finished. Mine came in the mail today so I haven't had the opportunity to instal them yet=2C but positive comment is in order. Not only are these stainless steel pieces milled extremely well=2C but the preload spacer's tight tolerance and fit are very=2C very close. With no gr ease on the threaded spacer=2C it is beautiful to feel how the two parts fi t (Glide) together. This is no cheap piece of hardware and they would more so belong on a very=2C very expensive telescope tripod or on tooling machin ery. Better than anything the dental industry puts out. Nice Job. Shame it is going to eventually get covered in grime. JOhn G 409 Do Not Archive
