Subject: | Re: Computer fan under glare shield |
I've got some higher speed 25CFM fans and they seem to do
a good job. I would think that they'd be a bare minimum
though. I've tried quite a bit lower volume fans and they didn't
work well. So I'd stick with something in the 25-125CFM range
if you can.
I actually have my glareshield fans blowing out anytime the
master is on, and it's helped me remember to turn the master
off a few times. It's nice because I get the plane all tucked
away in the hangar and I can hear if I left the switch on
or not. No fan noise, no dead battery.
Oh, and newegg.com rocks. I buy many thousands of bucks worth
of stuff there.

I'm leaving mine in; it prevents "submarining." I'm not planning on a crash but
it would be nice for the rear seat occupants to actually be sitting in their
seats when it comes to a stop.

Submarining isn't usually a problem in sudden deceleration. The torso
moves forward keeping the lap belt across the hips until the shoulder
strap gets really tight. A 5-point harness helps if you're doing wild
aerobatics or tumbling down the track in your racecar.
My Pitts has a 5-point harness, but I've never felt pressure in my
crotch from it.

I've always found it interesting that there are provisions for a 5 point
for the rear seats but not the front... I removed them.

Being a guy and all, I think I'm more afraid of what would
happen if I actually NEEDED the crotch strap in a crash.
If it seriously maimed me there, I think maybe I would
be wishing I hadn't been wearing any belt... :)

I'm not sure that anyone but Van's gets a good amount of info
on who's flying. I have 106 shown on the builders list,
but I know there's significantly more. I try to keep
them listed as flying once I hear they are though.

Don, Get a hold of John Cox (John where are you?), he keeps a database
of flying RV10's , the last I heard he had nearly 220 aircraft logged.

And Van's only updates their numbers when a builder explicitly notifies
them. Back when there weren't many -10s flying and it was a little
easier to track I recall their number being about 10-15% low.

I'm trying... flew a couple of hours today.- Kim has a class reunion a mo
nth out, so if I can get the hours flown off, that would be a good tuneup.
- Mark Carey and Jim Rore are both flying their 10's from here.... and I
think they wouldn't mind if we joined them.- Kim's son Max graduates from
Army basic training right smack in the middle of Osh... so we're a little
undecided.- Hope to see you there.-- Don
