Subject: | New Garmin traffic system was announced |
Does anyone have system interface diagrams or other installation documentat
ion for the navworx ads-b component? I get no answer from emails and the we
b site lacks about everything except how to buy one.
Can anyone that has purchased this unit attest to their support or lack the
reof?

=0A=0A =0AI think they are referring to www.navworx.com . My plan is to wai

I wonder though, I see that =0A although this map is old
http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/ato/service_units/
enroute/surveillance_broadcast/coverage/
that =0A ADS-B coverage for Segment 1 covers your area pretty well.
You can get =0A ADS-B for $1500-1700 for some systems, so with
that, would the $9000 price =0A tag be worth it? -I was flying
between SLC and oregon over remote =0A areas of Idaho a few
weeks ago and I was in ADS-B coverage. When near SLC =0A I
was in Mode-S coverage. -So while I completely agree
that Active =0A Traffic is great, the timeline for implementation
isn't that far out for =0A some of this stuff and it can be
done today and be fairly cheap. -So =0A it may fit the needs
of many. - But, I can't tell you what will =0A interface
with the G900X. -It may well be that this new system
is =0A your best choice simply because that's all that will
do the trick with your =0A system.
One thing regardless, you're absolutely right that =0A having
traffic is a big safety feature.

I have been looking at =0A the GTS-800 for my G900X. I currently have TI
S
Traffic which is fantastic =0A where TIS is available. Unfortunately hal
f of
my regular commute the TIS =0A drops off -"Traffic No Longer Available
" and
then you are on your =0A own. Or as I call it "old school." When TIS is
working it is a real comfort =0A in the congested Los Angeles
basin where there can often be a dozen =0A aircraft within a few miles o
f
you all going different directions at =0A various altitudes and speeds.
Most
of which you can't see. Helicopters =0A seem to be the worst as they are
low
and stationary. I am based where =0A many of the heavy lift fire fightin
g
helicopters stage for fire & =0A rescue (currently working the Station
Fire). Plus most all the local =0A network news choppers so there is a l
ot
of roto activity. -The other =0A night I was departing WHP after 8:00
pm,
the tower was closed so I was in =0A communication via CTAF with a NEWS
chopper flying low. I could not see =0A them visually but had them on th
e
"fish finder." Because we were in =0A communication and he had sight of
me I
was able to fly right over the top =0A of him (+1,000') and I confirmed
he
was at 2,000 MSL. He responded with a =0A surprised affirmative. I knew
this
because I was climbing through 3,000 =0A and my PFD showed "-1.0, -1.1,
-1.2..." and his direction vector. When I =0A visited Deems in mid-summe
r. Yes visiting Deems in AZ in
mid-summer. =0A Duhhhhh. We were 8 miles out lining up for DVT with prob
ably
7 other =0A aircraft in the area. None were easily visible out the windo
w
however I =0A did see them on the display. It looked like herding cats a
s
they were all =0A going different directions at different altitudes & sp
eeds
but I =0A could see as they all made their random turns for extended Lef
t
Base =0A entry to DVT. It was cool to see these random indications all l
ine
up in =0A front of me. With the visual verification I was able to easily
slide in =0A with adequate spacing and set up for arrival. Nothing beats
two
eyes out =0A the window but Traffic is a wonderful additional tool to ha
ve
at your =0A disposal.

Subject: | Get the instrument rating |
RV10 pilots should have instrument ratings and know/use their autopilots for
the sake of their passengers. I flew out of Tulsa Riverside for at least
eight years; This guy had a private ticket only for at least 22 years (FAA
records). From the article he departed RVS and flew for 30 minutes but
crashed within 10 miles of the airport. When I first heard the report I
thought he hit the 1600 AGL antenna about 5 miles north of where he crashed.
also remember that a VFR RV10 pilot and another IFR pilot do not make an
RV10 instrument pilot especially if the RV10 is glass equipped.
