FANTASTIC! - The AP is really a great addition. Way to go around the
      brick wall!

He will really enjoy the AP too.

Thanks to all of you who agreed
with me that my friend should install an
AP. I used all arguments to
convince his wife, who decided to surprise
      him with the AFS TruTrak
unit that matches his monitors for X-mas. He
      unwrapped it today and
is very excited that his wife pulled the trigger
      for him, and thanks
to Tricia at AFS it made it in time ... WOW, what an
      awesome surprise
      under the tree!

Anyone getting flaky readings with the GRT EIS EGT probes? My number 4
failed at 200 hours (split in two inside the exhaust); reading was bouncing
between 900 and 1100 degrees F. GRT replaced and that probe is OK but now
EGT number 6 probe is bouncing between 500 and 700. GRT has sent another
"higher quality/temperature" probe and I am about to install for number 6.
In all my previous dealing with EGT and TIT probes they lasted 1000+ hours
and were rated to about 1600 F. I am going to try the latest GRT probe and
then start looking for an Alcore or GEM probe to replace all the GRT probes.
CHT probes seem adequate, but EGTs fail early. My EGT probes are 2 - 2 1/2
inches below exhaust port. when working during cruise they always read
between 1360 and 1410. During leaning they may reach 1430 for short periods
      of time (seconds).

      Hello Geoff
We had a meeting with our build partners today and have decided to proceed with
your insert for the quadrant. We are also interested in your arm rest center
console. I'll give you a call on Monday.

On the other hand, Santa Maria, CA, 22 miles South of San Luis Obispo, rents
hangers for $163 month. I built a 1,800 square foot hanger at SMX airport
for way less than $100,000 and lease the ground for about $400 a year with a
fifty year lease. Not bad for cooler summers and warmer winters than SLO.
We love it here at Santa Maria!!!

      Bob,

I really is wonderful here. Beautiful weather year round. I golfed 9 holes
yesterday and was down to a Polo shirt.

San Luis Obispo sits in a terrific location with small mountains protecting
it from the coastal cold and larger inland mountains protecting it from the
heat of the central coast. There is really no bad time of year here unless
you have allergies. We have been called the allergy capital of the US. If
one were to fly from Santa Barbara or Vandenberg AFB just south of SLO past
Pismo & Shell beach, over Morro Rock and Morro Bay, a beam Hearst Castle and
up towards Big Sur & Monterey that would be one special flight. Maybe get
some aerial whale watching in at the same time. I guess there was a reason
      WR Hearst built here.

SLO has the magic of rolling hills that are bright green about 4 months a
year while the central coast vineyards are brown and as the mountains turn
      brown the vineyards turn green.

      SLO-After-a-Rain-Small.jpg

How one gets to live here is a matter of happenstance like most things. The
down side is that San Luis Obispo, CA was recently rated the most expensive
place to live in the US when considering income opportunity. Not a lot of
high paying industry here. Most of the high income individuals are retired
or in technology (like me) where working remotely allows us to live where we
wish. Until recently housing was completely unreasonable in SLO but with the
downturn some starter homes that were $7's may now be in the high $3's. For
the last decade we have had diminishing school populations as young families
could not afford to move into the area and school their kids. There is a
trade off however where our public schools are excellent so private schools
are not required like they would be in our LA neighborhood.

To further dampen people's desire to move here I can tell you that I have a
large hangar 45x50 that cost more than many people pay for their home. I
know a beautiful spot in AR where you can build a custom home on a private
air field (see my first flight) which is situated near a beautiful lake for
less than the cost of my hangar. And 20 years from now the lease will expire
on the hangar and the county will renegotiate to a rate I will not be able
to afford. Fortunately I plan to lose my medical long before that happens.

Happy Holidays to all. I love my RV's and the RV-List.

      Robin

My hangar neighbor (Cessna 410) is our hangar association attorney. He
recently sent out a letter discussing our lease renewal options. His
investigations show that Santa Maria (SMX) is substantially subsidized
by some local taxes and that is why SMX is so inexpensive. I really like
SMX but I live near SBP. I can't justify nearly 40 minutes each way
      regardless of the savings.

Chuck are you the -10 builder with the inflatable houses? I remember
visiting a -10 builder in SMX about 3.5 years ago.

      Robin
