Luis,
Definitely go for a 1/4" drive that measures in inch-pounds. I use mine a lot,
while my 3/8" drive I've only used once or twice. A 1/2" drive is virtually useless
for our kind of work, except maybe the engine.
You can probably find a decent one on ebay:

Hope the link works,

Thanks Robert.
It could be retro-fitted. The only new holes are four screw holes, a 5/16 hole
to tighten a screw and an opening in the bottom of the door to slide in the mechanism
which is about 2-1/8 inches x 3/4 which could be filled in with a fiberglass
piece.
I'm thinking about making a bunch of these and having the builders install them.
Haven't thought about cost.

At this point my thinking is that nothing changed the dimensions of the
busing or mount. We were probably focusing so much on placing tension on
compressing the gear leg that we must have overlooked the slop. Add a
little grease and the fit seems acceptably tight (for a while). Oh well,
one custom bushing later and all is well.
I plan to test fly once these storms pass.

That's quite a bit of slop, any idea what may have caused that wear on
the
bushing or the inner portion of the mount? IIRC it was a nice snug fit
when
originally installed. Do you think may a side load condition? I would
think
the wheel would caster to prevent that. Got me thinking. Gotta jack it
up
and see now...

I like your product. I could very well be interested in a few months as I don't
have my finishing kit yet. I just got my aerosport overhead duct so it was
neat to see that as well.
I don't know what you machining capabilities are, but I have a friend who has a
complete commercial machine shop out by SL#2 airport and he is an RV-7 builder/flyer.
I can hook you up with him to crank out some kits if you need.

Sure thing. I believe i now have a way to retrofit existing doors that
only travel 90 to 100 degrees and still work like mine. It would also
work for after market handles.

My compliments!!! I'd have to say that is as close to ideal as anyone
could ask for. I think you did exactly what 99% of the RV-10 owners
would love to have. That's something that I'd be very happy with.
Wonderful job. Would love to see the internal mechanism that runs it.

Sean,
WOW!!!! You have come up with a great design. I know we would be very interested
in purchasing the mechanism. We are about ready to start her up. The design
looks like we could retrofit the door any time. Keep all of us in the loop.

For all of you that are close to installing the doors and want my system, don't
cut your rack gears from Vans where they tell you. Cut them in half, right down
the middle or wait for the instructions with my kit. This way I (or you)can
make 180 degrees of travel on your handle. Retrofit kits will have the option
of buying 90 degree kits for already cut racks or 180 degree kits that include
new racks for the handles. The 180 degree kits will cost a little extra
for the material. For those of you who want retrofit kits you will have to decide
on whether you want the door to be pulled in before pin penetration and 1-1/4
of pin travel past the door or 90 degree kits that hold the door closed and
tight in the middle preventing bulging and the same pin extension.

You will be using it a lot, so you might as well get it now. The 1/4" drive is
the most used, but as you move to final assembly you need the others sizes also.
Since you are literally betting your life on it's measurement get a good one
that is calibrated. Otherwise buy a good used one that is calibrated or get
it calibrated. Cleveland tools
( cleavelandtoolstore.com )
sells a very good CDI branded wrench (calibrated) that is actually a snap-on
wrench (identical) except for the logo. It is not cheap (about $189) but do you
want to trust your torque values to a Harbor Freight wrench. Also a couple of
tubes of torque lacquer, so that you do not forget what you worked on.
