Subject: | Storage Help needed in VA or DC area |
Sorry yo blast to entire list but I need help.
I'm moving my RV-10 project from Texas to Virginina. It is loaded on an
18 foot flatbed trailer in crates (overall lenght 22').
I was going to store it in a garage in Lynchburg VA temporarily until I
found permananent space in N VA - my ultimate destination.
Probl4em is when I got to the garage in Lyncburg the door isn't wide
enough (Need 97" and it is just at 96") for the trailer to back into.
I don't want to unload the crates as I will still need a place for the
trailer and I don't plan on it being here that long anyway.
Anyone got any storage space in VA/MD area that can hold aloaded trailer
for a month or so?

Having completed the 10 in 2008 and flown it about 250 hours, I am
considering building my third aircraft. It will probably be an RV12. Does
anyone know of a set of PDF plans like we have for the 10? I would build it
E-AB but would like to preview the plans prior to a decision.

Jim,
You've got my interest, but I need to get a little more info. What I'm seeing is
a nut that you can rivet. You mentioned a squeezer, but I assume you can buck
these things as well. Cost less than nutplates.

John, the nuts are round and have a serration all the way around so that wh
en you squeeze it into place , it digs into the receiving metal and is fair
ly permanent.- I probably should just send out some of these to everyone
on the list.- I'm sure almost all would find several suitable uses for th
em.- Much faster and-cheaper,

Will forward you what I have from the TEEN FLIGHT project (RV-12) we are
building at Van's. The plans start out as 11"x17" base sheets just like
the RV-10 and Kinko's/FEDEX were nice enough to convert to PDF. We have
four of the twelve Instructors with RV-12 experience. Your experience
pulling pop-rivets on the Rv-10 floor make you a natural to tackle the
12. I can also report how many Rotax sit on the shelves which tend to
be going out like Hotcakes at an EAA breakfast. Get ready to be working
with gentle hands on the 0.020" skins. Lauren Paine has an article
appearing soon on the build project sponsored by the Center for Airway
Sciences.

We have had a change in plans, and are going to fly into Chandler AZ on Monday
the 1st of March...(for 1 or 2 nights)... anyone have room in a hangar, or know
of someone who does. We are certainly willing to pay.... it's just that the
10 doesn't like to get cold at night.
Thanks, Don McDonald

I use PEM nuts for all my electronics mounting. I like them better than
rivnuts because the PEM nuts mount from the back of the aluminum leaving
the front side flat, unlike the rivnuts that have that 'washer' on the
surface.

John,
Don has already covered it well, but to answer your question more specifically
there are no rivets involved in mounting PEM nuts. A rivet squeezer works well
for setting them when the hole is close enough to an edge. In spite of Don's
admonition otherwise, they can also be installed with a hammer and a hardwood
block when the hole is too far from an edge to reach with your squeezer. Once
a PEM nut is set, it takes a minimum of 200# of force to push it back out. So
while not a secure as a riveted anchor nut, plenty strong enough for many applications,
easier to install and cheaper. Try 'em and you will like 'em.

Cold at night???? The forecast low for all of this week is in the high
40s, nothing colder than 45. :-P
Expect 70 or so for day time.

For what its worth, I totally eliminated my shimmy by re-balancing my
tires (original 130 hrs ago).
The surprising part for me was how much lead weight it took to get
them balanced.
I was most suspect of the balance until I did 2 test flights following
the re-balancing......
