Scott, I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures. Can you also post the instructions? Alan _____ From: owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Scott Schmidt Sent: Wednesday, March 10, 2010 12:39 AM Subject: Re: RV10-List: Re: New Door Latch Video S.B. replacement I did decide to install Sean's 90 degree system in my plane. I was a little worried at first about making a cut into the door but it was a piece of cake to install. The instruction were great and it was very easy to make the small cut in the bottom of the door and one slit with a cut-off wheel and then just clean it up with a file. I installed the kit in under 3 hours. I have not been able to test the system because I am installing new aluminum door blocks for the receiver pins and I ran out of time on Sunday to finish. The kits exceeded my expectations in quality and everything was very well thought out. It was great that I did not have to remove any of my blocks in the door or the handle since my screws were already painted over on the outside of the door. I took a bunch of pictures and will post some in a few days once I finish up and do my final adjustments. With the 90 degree system I should be able to have full or very close to full engagement of the cam (meaning it will pull the door completely closed) before the pins extend into the door block. Before installing the kit I called Ed Hayden and he could not say enough about how great it works. He made the comment that the first time he closed the door he thought he forgot to put the ends of the rods back on because it closed so smooth but they were on. I guess it had never closed that easily. After I heard his endorsement I went for it. If you already have a painted RV-10 the 90 degree kit will be great. If you don't have your doors painted you may want to consider the 180 degree kit. Anyway, I'll finish up later this week and post some pictures and possibly a video link for the 90 degree system. Said it only took about 2 hours for the 2nd one he did, and he didn't have to remove screws either. So this is great news. Sounds like you have the perfect kit solution. go back to 4/17/2008 Thanes States had a solution: Go to lowes or H.D and B-line it for the plumbing department, then look for the rubber fittings to attach PVC, in line, 1 1/2". Get a coupling for 1 1/2" pipe, it will be about 4" long and have two hose clamps on each end. You will need to cut the two ends off with a band saw, or your weapon of choice. Cut just inside of the groove where the clamp sets. You will now have two couplings for each vent. Then you can use a dremal to cut the big flange off the NACA inlets, about 1/4 inch from the seam, or so you have 1 1/2" diameter left. Then with the nut ring still on the eyeball vent insert it into the rubber coupling and place the whole unit over the NACA vent, and tighten the hose clamp. Sound complicated but take around 30 minutes. From: John Gonzalez Sent: Tuesday, March 09, 2010 9:26 PM Subject: RV10-List: Stein eyeball vents and Van's NACA vents. I spent a small amount of time last weekend figuring out how I am going to mount those nice Stein eyeball vents with my standard Van's panel. In addition, Stein removed the small flange on the side of the panel which ties into the fuselage side with two rivets. I have been having a hell of a time cutting clean, large holes in aluminum, I don't have a fly cutter or whole saws and the pnuemetic nibbler is not much fun. I made a thin aluminum prototype to get the height and the angle correct to work with the NACA vent on the side of the fuse. I am contemplating having many of these made up by giving to a water jet cutter. I realize that most builders are using aftermarket panels and have made other arrrangement for these eyeball vents, but is anyone interested in helping defray the cost of this process. If I do this I will cut one pair, mount them and verify that it works and then cut others pairs if people are interested in paying for them(no profit). I imagine most of the cost will be in scanning the image and verifying the dimensions while digitizing the information for the cutter. Once the info is in the computer it will be easy to run a lot of them. I will also be tying this mount into the side of the fuse where those two #40 rivet holes are where Stein removed the panel flange. Here are some photos. BTW if anyone has a simpler method of mounting these with my setup, please let me know. John

I assume you have the 2004-2008 mags right? you are doing service bulletins SB2-08A and SB3-08A, dated July 1, 2008 and September 11, 2008. I don't know of one more recent than that.. which is why I am asking. Thane, I may have the procedure but will have to look, I retimed mine a few months ago. Requires a timing box that hooks to the P leads to get both mags as close to each other as possible. Any idea on the cost of doing the mod to the mags? I'm coming up on that time as well. Rick I will be down in your neck of the woods, if you pull the mags I will be glad to help you reinstall them and get them timed correctly. Being a old a&p it is a very simple process. Just let me know shoot me a e-mail off list and we can go from there. I will be flying into Henderson and can bring my buzz box and slick mag install timing pin with me. John G. Best to get an A&P to talk you through the first time. Not hard, but if you don't have the mag timing box and know a couple key steps, you won't get it right. Be sure the A&P is familiar with Slick mags, as the install is different from Bendix mags. Yea, if they are under 100 hrs., then it is $75.00, each. However, if they find any other issues, then the price goes up. Mine were working fine but the key is to do them before the 100 hrs. Also they said they would turn them in 2 days. I second what Kelly McMullen said. Spend what you need for the 1/2-3/4 hrs. that your local A&P will spend doing it right. Watch him carefully or better yet video it for the next time. I had mine done yesterday to double check them. Apparently, after 50-100 hrs the timing can change a bit. Mine were dead on (no change). -------- OSH '10 or Bust Q/B - testing phase 1 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=289985#289985

Had an expert (Norm my hangar bud) help, all in all it's very simple and a bit prehistoric, like using the joint line of the case to establish the timing, it was fun and I can tell ya, my mags after 50 hours were only off a few degrees from each other, once they were right in sync it made a HUGE difference on how well the engine started. -----Original Message----- From: owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Kelly McMullen Sent: Wednesday, March 10, 2010 2:05 PM Subject: Re: RV10-List: slick mag install and timming Best to get an A&P to talk you through the first time.
