I have a 3 blade Aero Composit prop and in order to remove the lower cowl I
have to pull the tail down so the front gear leg can drop down and provide
clearance. I have a 4-wheel HF furniture dolly wilh 180 lbs of concrete mix
on it and a block and tackle that does the job. My wing jacks (I'm glad I
have two) are HF rams in a plywood stand.

Make sure that the rib flanges are bent 90* to the web. Also, I found it easier
to start clecoing the first two holes of the top and bottom skin at the forward
leading edge and worked my way back and forth one row and a time alternating
top and bottom working my way aft towards the rear baffle.

Subject: RV10-List: Fuel tank skin not fitting tank ribs.
I'm working on my first fuel tank and I'm having trouble getting the skin to fit
to the ribs. It's like the skin was bent at too small a radius at the leading
edge. I have the ribs cleco'ed to the top side of the tank skin, but I cannot
get even CLOSE to getting the holes on the other side to align. I had some difficulty
with the same phase of the outboard leading edges, but nothing like
this tank skin.
So, the question is: Is there a trick I'm missing?

I don't remember who posted this, but I did the exact same thing as this but with
a welded steel structure. I screw the jack receiver into the tie-down ring
base and jack the plane up from there. It is very secure and I am very comfortable
with it. I would not use any other system that didn't have the positive
connection as I have with the tie-down ring receiver, so there's no way it can
fall off the jack.

Has anyone figured out a good way to protect the firewall integrity were
the control cables pass thru the firewall in the stock holes?
There is no space between the holes (1/4 inch) to accommodate the
eyeball type pass- thru, nor the stainless shields. I could trim three
shields and nestle them together, but has anyone made a shield in one
piece that would cover all three holes? How about you guys with access
to a machine shop that could punch out such a shield and sell them to us
less fortunate.
I'm also looking for a source for stainless flanges to run thermocouple
wires thru.

Subject: | Securing Conduit |
I am running a piece of =BD" flexible conduit from the battery
compartment and back through the tailcone. It's actually travelling
through (3) bulkhead lightening holes on the lower/left side of the
tailcone. Each end is secured by Adel clamps and the middle bulkhead
has a grommet.
However, after installing the conduit there is still quite a bit of
slack between the bulkheads and I'd like to add some support(s) between
each one.
I'm thinking about using a 1" x 1" nylon block (Lowes Aviation Dept)
that is secured to the skin and then using a zip-tie to secure the
conduit. I think E6000 (IIRC) is will stick and stay stuck.
1) Is this an acceptable method to add incremental support for
conduit?
2) Are there any significant risks in causing skin cracks around
rivets later?
3) Any advice on other materials to use?
Thanks,
Phil

I purchased my wing jacks from www.aircraftjacks.com about 3 years
ago. I needed them small enough for my RV-4 and to extend big enough
for my RV-10. They work great and I highly recommend them for long
term maintenance. I also purchased their tail stand for which you add
your own concrete.....

The flex conduit runs I've seen in the tail don't have any additional
support. I'm planning on using thin-wall PVC pipe and hangars from Home
Depot (idea came from another builder!) for conduit in the wings and in
the tail.

[quote="Phil.Perry(at)netapp.com"]I was thinking about putting it into the baggage
bulkhead and located just in front of the baggage door. This way it would
be out of the weather, but still accessible via the baggage door.
My plan may be flawed though. The further you get into the project, the more you
realize that all that thinking you did previously really doesn't matter. :)
Phil
Phil, that is where I located mine and I am very happy with it in that position.
I have an opening for it in my aft baggage bulkhead and in the upholstery panel.
It is covered by a small rectangular cover that velcros in position. Abby
at Flightline Interiors did a nice job on it. I also made a plug out of a block
of phenolic that stays "plugged in" when not in use to protect the pins. As
I mentioned in an earlier post, I would not want to be without it.

Chris,
For stainless flanges for your thermocouple wires look at Home Depot bathroom fittings
i.e. towel bars or grab bars. See the Aeroelectric list for for pictures

Nice installation! I was going to mount mine in the channel above the
panel where you did. I couldn't figure a good place to hang the
headsets where the cords were out of the way of passengers getting
in/out. So I mounted mine in the console cover between the seats.

If you attached a fence post of the right length, you could just put a
bolt through to secure the tail from going up or down. With it secure,
jacking on either wing tie down point, or both will raise the nose.
That is how a gear check is done on retractables.

Don't have an opinion on the static ports. But I highly recommend a cover
or preflight on the fuel vent lines. I had a wog crawl into the line and c
ompletely seal the vent - noticeable by a profound sucking noise when the f
uel cap is removed. Having seen the consequences of a blocked vent (a badl

A bent pipe cleaner (W) poked into the vent will keep out critters. Mud
daubers are a problem here in the SE, and the pipe cleaners work. You
don't even have to remove them for flight.

another reason to have two holes per vent line. I have the normal vent lines
beveled forward and inside the fairing I have a #50 hole drilled in the
backside of the vent line. This is in a protected area in case impact ice or
snow would clog the normal vent.

I was thinking of making one or two little protective covers for my AOA
pressure ports using a couple of suction cups with a "Remove before Flight"
tag hanging off.

Aussie slang for any creepy crawley, bug, critter, insect etc. There are
also a number of politically incorrect definitions that I won't go in to,
but none in that category will fit inside the vent line :).
Cheers
