We put ours over the pax's shoulder on the crossbeam that supports the seat backs. (towards each end) Seemed like a good spot to keep things out of the way. Of course, we haven't flown any pax yet . . . We have successfully tested the audio system, with a couple selector switches, so the front seats can hear the in-dash MP3 player or the front stereo input jack, while the back seaters can listen to either their rear stereo input jack or whatever the front seats are listening to. Tim, what audio panel are you using? A lesson learned for me (just fixed during this year's inspection), if you are using a PS8000, there is separate "mute" line for the passengers that needs to be wired so that they can use the "Karaoke" mode (MP3 does not fade out when something comes over the radio or intercom). The front panel mute button only works for the crew. For flying music enthusiasts, the combination of a Bose QC headphone with the Uflymike adapter www.uflymike.com makes a wonderful headset to also listen to music. The fidelity is so clear that muting of music at a moderate level isn't even necessary. Also, the adapter has its own music jack for someone into their own music source. The headset runs on a single AAA battery that lasts for several days of continuous use. -------- Myron Nelson Mesa, AZ Emp completed, QB wings completed, legacy build fuse in progress Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=291566#291566

If you have a PMA-8000 audio panel from PS engineering, there are several options regarding rear seat muting of the music when someone speaks on the intercom or radio: 1. Wire an external "Karokee" switch, as described above; 2. At the rear, wire the mute control to the "Aux" switch control line, if you're not using it for DME or something else. Now the Aux switch is the rear Karokee switch; 3. Ground the rear wire, leaving the rear seats' music always on. -------- Bob Turner RV-10 QB Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=291569#291569

If it's just to change the nosewheel, I use a 2x4 levered over a chock with one end of the 2x4 under the front bearing and then I sit on the other end. Sounds cheesy but it works great and then I put a block under the fork to hold while the wheel is removed. It is my understanding that you do not want to use the engine lift point. Jim Berry 40482 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=290413#290413

Just don't use them as the pilot....if the battery dies, you get nothing. For passengers, great. This (pilot hears nothing if battery dies) reminds me of the fail-safe screw up on the original Garmin audio panels. They brought the fail safe connection to the ring, not tip, connection, on the pilot's headset. So if the pilot was using mono headsets, the fail-safe didn't work! -------- Bob Turner RV-10 QB Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=291616#291616

    Subject: lower cowling fit
    From: "Bob Turner" <bobturner@alum.rpi.edu>
After trimming my lower engine cowling, I find that on the left side there is virtually no flat area left for attaching the F-1001Q hinge (or, a flat plate with nutplates). Instead, the aft end of the cowl, after trimming, has the fiberglass-foam-fiberglass sandwich area where the hinge should go. Right side has some interference but not as bad. Anyone else have this problem? Not sure how I could have trimmed too much; any less and it would be right up against the spinner, or worse. -------- Bob Turner RV-10 QB Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=291630#291630

You may have gotten a bad layup from Vans. The critical dimension is to keep the thing aligned with the spinner but not too close. Also you want to be sure that it is centered on the bottom with the exhaust cutout. You can screw around with the FAB after the main fitting is done. You may have to grind down the "fat" part and rebuild the flange with new fiberglass and epoxy. You want that back edge to be strong and secure as it takes a lot of pressure and vibration. A lot of the layups are not that great (oh lord how I know! ) but you always seem to be able to salvage the chop shop stuff that they send to you into usable quality parts - just a lot more work -------- OSH '10 or Bust Q/B - testing phase 1 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=291632#291632
