Does anyone have a recommendation on a purchase of a reasonably priced IR Thermometer Gun. I can find a lot of choices from $40 to $400. My preferenc e is to keep it under $100 delivered. It seems appearances (plastic housings) can be deceiving as some of the $60 units look acceptable. Also do I care about the distance to target ratio 4:1, 12:1 or 50:1. I guess to answer tha t question you will ask me what I plan on using it for? CHT=92s right now but who knows later? Thanks, Robin

Had a need that was to read at 75' of distance. The 2 degree beam worked great for that - it was a Snap-On "Blue Point" at $99.00. For exhaust stacks, sparkplug reading CHTs and wheel bearing seizure any that provide a temperature might fill your bill. Those have been done with the cheapo Harbor Freight price point under $40. When dressing props with tip damage, the handheld IR is great to make sure the composite resin temp does not run away. When using s.steel inserts in composite honeycomb with potting compound the exothermic can run away and the handheld can save the day. Ask Geoff what he does. The right tool can sure make it more fun.
