On page 27-5 there are two K1000-3 nutplates that are called out as being on the forward side of the firewall. Step 7 on page 27-2 also calls your attention to these two nutplates as being on the forward side. My question is how are these attached? The plans call for dimpling all the attach holes for a flush head rivet on the fwd side of the firewall, but that doesn't seem correct for the four mounting holes for these two nutplates. But the rivet callouts for these nutplates on page 27-5 still call for flush rivets for mounting these two nutplates. Manufactured head on aft side of firewall for these two nutplates and no forward side dimple? Any help appreciated. Thanks, Sean #40303

At least 1 of those nutplates are for attaching the adel clamps that secure the heat control cables. Dimple flush on the aft side of the firewall with the nutplates on the forward side to provide for mounting these adel clamps on the aft (cabin) side of the firewall. The cables are routed through the oval shaped hole near those nutplates and then further secured with adel clamps on the forward side. This is shown much later in the plans - page FF1-3. Hey Guys, OK, I flew with Wes for the first time to check out the ice A/C. (Flying was OK, but building is still my thing!) I didnt have a thermometer for the actual inside temp, but on the taxiway it was HOT instant sweat hot. As soon as the engine was cranked, I turned on the air with the two 4 inch ducts just hand held between the pilot/copilot seats (Ill probably come up with a tunnel console later) and there is immediate relief. Cool, dry air and complete comfort by take off. I immediately turned off the air during climb out to save ice, and to not add any unnecessary load during critical times. When at cruise I noticed that the amp draw on the instrument panel was at 1. Turning the cooler on and off, it pulls a little over 7 amps. I turned it on again at touch down to shut off. The male plug into the socket was not hot after using it. Two store bought bags of ice lasted for two take offs and landings, with plenty of cold water left in the cooler, but no ice. There is enough room for 4 or five bags of ice in the cooler if you wanted to run it longer or do more take offs and landings. Your mileage may vary, keep weight in mind. The first pilot to see this at the hangar, asked me to make one for him, which I did. Total cost with shipping would be $250. New 48 qt. cooler, new fans, hoses, ducts, switches, etc. used heater core. Later, - Lew -------- non-pilot crazy about building NOW OFICIALLY BUILDER #40549 Fly off completed ! The other one is used to secure the brake lines on the aft side of the firewall. Make the dimples flush on the aft side. -Rob On Fri, Jul 16, 2010 at 9:07 AM, Condrey, Bob (US SSA) < bob.condrey@baesystems.com> wrote: > bob.condrey@baesystems.com> > > At least 1 of those nutplates are for attaching the adel clamps that secure > the heat control cables. Is it acceptable practice to use red rtv in place of proseal where it is called out in the firewall sections such as the heater vents and the box corners? I realize red rtv is not a true fire barrier, but then neither is proseal at an upper range of +275 degrees. -Sean #40303

Sean, I'm not sure I'd use either one. We get this 3M fire sealant at Home Depot: http://tinyurl.com/25663eu It isn't expensive. One tube would do the whole firewall perimeter and misc. gaps. Went to OSH this a.m. and saw scholler. It looks much like it did most years. They have more young trees planted in many of the rows now, so in future years there will be more shade available. The grounds are VERY wet right now. There has been a lot of rain and they are actively pumping water out from some areas of the campground. It is very likely that Bob and Gary will be able to get a very similar location to the last couple years, so RV-10 HQ should end up in about the same area. It may be a little more quicker filling this year...hard to tell, but there are some folks picking up sole campsites in areas that usually didn't have campers when I got there this early. I updated a couple minor things at http://www.myrv10.com/osh/ and added a food concession schedule thanks to Bob Leffler. It should be a great year....lets hope for another year of 75 degrees and sunny, and hopefully with no rain! Step 4 on page 43-6 has you drill 5 holes into the fiberglass. However, lo and behold, the top hole is already filled with an AN-470 rivet securing the angle to the longeron. Obviously I will need to drill out this rivet. I could not tell, looking back at section 29 where these pieces are installed whether that hole was supposed to be riveted or the thrillers in Manila just filled it because it was there. there should be 5 holes under the bracket. The holes you are drilling will get screws to hold the door frame. The rivets in the post angle should all be in at this point -------- eric gohr EGOHR86@alumni.carnegiemellon.edu Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=305130#305130

I used the red silicone to fill the corners of the recessed box on the firewall, and used it to 'glue' thin red silicone sheet to the flapper on the cabin heat valve so it'd seal really well. Acceptable???
