I wanted to thank Bob, Gary, and Neal for setting up RV-10 HQ again this
year. While the weather wasn't the best at the beginning, it turned out to
be a great week. Especially getting to see all the fellow RV-10 builders
again. I also wanted to thank Brenda, Susan, and Ally (sp?) for hosting the
dinners.
I hope those that stayed through the weekend experienced a great night
airshow.

Now that you are back home, wash the cover to remove all that fine grit that
gets up under the cover and sticks in the soft inner lining. If left as is
over time it will build up enough grit to scratch the windows and paint when
the wind blows hard. Ask me how I know!

I got a Bruce's cover at OSH two years ago. This was it's first real acid
test at OSH this summer - performed great.....lots of rain. Real important
is the super soft inside that rides against the canopy and does not seem to
scratch it. They seem to have many custom permutations to fit your specific
needs . I recommend.

Subject: | Doors & gas struts |
They've been hanging there long enough... staring at me in all their ill-fitting
glory. After many hours filing and sanding, my doors sort of fit. Anyone approaching
this point should take a look at Deems website as it's very helpful.
A couple of questions...
Gas Struts - I searched the archives and found a couple people mentioned getting
upgraded struts. Cost? Sources? Really necessary? Are they drop in replacements?
Sounds like the standard Vans-supplied part is about to join other dead parts
in my orange Homer Bucket.
DISCOAT 4220 - Wish I'd have known about it before installing windows... Hadn't
heard anyone mention this stuff. Found it until poking around on Deems website.
Looks really useful!
Cheers,
Jay

It was good seeing everyone at OSH. The food and folks were great - in that
order. :)
I'm getting ready to swipe the debit card for the wing and finish kits.
Are there any obvious items that I should consider omiting? The fuse is
already in-house.

Search the archives on the finish kit. There are several things to
omit, like nose wheel and axle.

After I thought I was so careful watching numbers I forgot Scott took a 30 to 45

a little better than what I originally posted.

Nah, my AVERAGE fuel burn for an entire flight is usually
around 10gph, if I take total hours and total gallons.
When you run LOP, you'll have fuel burns into the 7's
with probably 11.5 or so being the HIGH end of fuel flows.
Switch it to ROP flying and you're right...14 or so is a
good number. I burn 13.5-15 usually when ROP.
I flight plan 160kts and 14gph. In reality, I end up
usually a tad bit faster, and can plan on 10-10.5gph
for most any flight, as long as I can get up above
7 or 8000'. If I'm stuck "under the weather", then I
have to revert to the 14gph planned number.
That's why I find it nice to have fuel price info on board
when I fly, using Voyager....my flight plans always show
me at destinations reachable with 14gph flows, but I
typically can do much better, so if I've been cruising
for 3 hours LOP, I may need to search for a better
fuel stop that clears me from whatever weather is around,
and is reachable at my real burn rate. I could pre-plan
multiple options, but I find in the real world, your
weather diversions may make some plans not work out
anyway, if you're staying VFR.

I flew nonstop from X35 (north central FL) to KRHI (north WI) just before the show.
I was a 16,000 ft burning 9.5 gph just rich of peak (headwinds most of the
trip, so I needed some speed), getting about 165 ktas. I burned 71 gals on
the 1,090 nm trip in 7:08. It was a great flight and very economical. You can
check out the trip log on flight aware for N256H. You can actually get more
efficiency if you lean it past peak. I have seen fuel flows of under 8 gph
in high altitude cruise before, although it's best to do that, IMHO, when you
have winds at your back.

After just receiving my intersection fairings from Jan Hanekom's site at rvbits.com,
I would certainly go with those over Vans intersection fairings. There are
many other recommendations in the archives. These kits involve alot of builder
preference.

*I want to throw in my appreciation to those who coordinated the RV-10 HQ
too.
Our plans originally had us staying at a cabin in Sleepy Hollow Farms, but
that didn't work out. We were lucky to find a room in Appleton at the
Holiday Inn. This cut down the amount of time we could spend with the
fellow RV-10 crowd, but we had a great time when we were able to get over to
54th and Lindbergh.
I especially want to thank John Cox for providing local beer. After a full
day of crowds and 100LL, it hit the spot. :)
Most importantly, I think the ladies really enjoyed themselves too. Despite
having a fun little 3 month old boy constantly attached to her, Sara enjoyed
herself. She also commented how much fun the RV-10 crowd was.
We'll see you all in 51 weeks, if not sooner.
Phil

I am getting ready to place my order for the wings, and I thought I
would check here to see if anyone has a wing kit that they would like to

Van's has a 12 week lead time posted for the wing kit.
Does anyone have any recent experience with actual wait times?

Unfortunately, in the last 6 months I have been unable to work on the 10, it
appears that my work schedule will not change in the foreseeable future and
I have decided to sell the 10, I plan on selling it for Vans replacement
costs if I can. There is probably 600 to 800 hours of work top quality work
completed. The doors are hanging on the fuselage. The engine (C4B5) is
rebuilt to new spec's for twin electronic ignition (not included), if
someone is planning for a single or dual Mags, the "gears" would have to be
added. I would prefer to sell the engine and kit together but will separate
if I am I cannot sell them together. I am located in Chesapeake Va. E-mail
