I agree with Rob. The ribs are ok, but it does appear that there may be a problem with mounting the sub panel. Without pictures of the other locations where the subpanel attaches to the panel, it's difficult to tell where the issue may be. bob From: owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Rob Kochman Sent: Saturday, October 23, 2010 1:06 AM Subject: Re: RV10-List: Step 31 Weird... would be good to see a couple pics of where that upper forward fuse assembly is clecoed to the rest of the fuselage. I'd try putting the skin on and see if it helps align things. It would seem to me that the problem is in the sub-panel bend angle, maybe, which is keeping the ribs from witting where they need to for the firewall attachment. I usually cleco and rivet that structure to the skin off the plane and then install it as one piece. You might want to try that with clecos and see if that helps with the alignment. Adding the skin to the mix will help confirm whether you have the right parts or something is wrong. The top of the firewall is bent forward. I don't see this in your photos. Might be part of your alignment problem? Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=316761#316761

Rick, Even 5 years ago the proper vinyl material was pretty bullet proof. If you see vinyl covered tour busses, taxi cabs etc=85 they hold up pretty well. A company we have partial ownership in sent a Rock & Roll mobile stage & tour bus out on the Warp Tour for 7+ years in a row crossing the country setting up at various venues where stoned & drunken teens hung out around, barfed on and in general abused the vehicle and the fully vinyl covered vehicle looked pretty darn good after all that. That truck never sa w a garage or covered storage.. Also keep in mind that most planes look much worse for wear after sitting outside for 5 years too. Heck if someone wante d my recommendation for a plane purchase and said it had to live outside I would not recommend a Vans aircraft. Another difference is you can peel off the vinyl whenever you want and replace for a heck of a lot less than a new paint job. One last word on vinyl. Since the original request was about stripes I wanted to mention that not all stripes are the same. If someone were to adhere thin vinyl stripes on a plane the chances of pealing or sagging is a heck of a lot greater than placing a wide meaty stripe on that has significantly more adhesive surface area. Something like a Stars & Bars sticker is not going anywhere once it has cured on the metallic surface. If someone were to place a large #8 on their tail it would probably stay in place and give the owner no issues for a long time but if the owner had an #8 printed on a large round circle say like a Billiard 8 Ball graphic that baby is not going to be an issue for a decade. Hmmmm........ Certainly does sound like the vinyl you're talking about must be tough stuff. I'm far from an expert on vinyl, so I'm thinking the last A/C I saw with it, must have used an inferior product. The paint was certainly in a lot better shape than the vinyl used as an acent colour. All I know is my -10 will be all paint. Andy, You need to cleco the ribs to the firewall, it will pull everything together and create the slope that is made by the forward fuse.
