keep adjusting them until you like waht you see!!

Passed my amateur radio license exam a couple of months ago, and I've been
using the Byonics Micro-Trak RTG radio during my flight test period. Works
great! So far, I just have put the radio in the corner of the glareshield
and plugged it into the cigarette jack, with the antenna going up the co-p
ilot side edge of the windshield frame (inside). Reception has been fine w
ith that arrangement so far.
Check out my flights at: http://aprs.fi/?call=n52ks&mt=roadmap&z=11&
timerange=3600

Any other RV-10s flying with APRS? The Technician class license test is pr
etty easy - multiple choice, and you have to get 70 or 75% correct to pass.
About 1/3 of the questions on are the rules, 1/3 on Ohm's law, etc., and
1/3 on general radio hardware.
Cheers,

I plan to go this route. There is always the concern of where I am at a
certain time. Funny how this happened right after I got married!
I find it interesting that the radio picked you up over the water as
well. I'll need to find out the range of the signals to determine just
how far one can go into the mountains and wilderness before not being
picked up.

Ditto. I installed the Byonics MT AIO APRS permanently under the
fiberglass fairing forward of the vertical and wired to track whenever
the Master or avionics Master is on. My wife can now watch my progress
on flightaware if IFR or flight following and via the internet if VFR.
The only place where i have found digipeaters lacking is south of MEV at
12000 MSL.
I routinely set in the family room and watch/track when a buddy flies
the aircraft.

A long long ways.... I only have the 300mw version, and I have
nearly continuous coverage on all flights. For something like
the Bahamas, or Alaska, it may be best to have SPOT, or Spidertracks,
but APRS actually does a better job at giving a great track than
those do, if you like seeing where you went. I have a trip
write-up that I'm just finishing in the next couple days
that shows some over-mountain time, so I'll post on that when I'm
done and then you can see how the coverage was.

the MTAIO varies between 1 and 10 watts. I am transmitting at 10 watts every
30 seconds. The biggest recepton problems are low altitude over sparsely
populated areas. The transmission is 144.39MH and is line of sight. Check
the AIM for height above terrain reception of VORs(108-118 MH). They are in
the VHF band also.

Disclaimer: aircraft is not yet flying.
Trio doesn't seem to be advertising this much, so I thought I'd post this:
I bought the Trio system with auto trim. Per their manual, it will do the following:
auto trim when the autopilot is engaged.
Manually trim (you turn the knob) when the autopilot is not engaged.
Drive the trim at two different speeds. Fast trim when slow, slower trim when fast.
I think it uses pulse width modulation. You set the speeds in the set up
menu. You also set the speed (I'm guessing it uses gps ground speed) where the
changeover from fast to slow happens.

I left at 11:45 on Saturday and managed to get to Reno before having to
give up and finish the trip on Southwest Airlines. The ice and wind foreca

On the way down I was seeing 165kts TAS at 17,000 ft.
I am flying down in the morning to get the plane and should be back home
