There seems to be a preference for the AirFlow Performance 2006X. Recalling stories from the RV-10 HQ at OSH, I believe that it keeps temps lower 10-15 degrees. But since I'm not flying yet, I have no first hand knowledge. bob -------- Bob Leffler N410BL - Finish RV-10 #40684 http://mykitlog.com/rleffler Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=318139#318139

There is a comma after the .com. Remove it and the link works fine. Eric Kallio Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=318144#318144

Hi all - I'm intending to install a Comant "cat whisker" style antenna in the tail o f my -10 and want to rivet a doubler in there before closing up the tail. - Can anyone provide a bolt or screw pattern for me and the size of nut p lates required to secure it?- The antenna is a CI 157P or possibly the CI 158C which is the removable element version.- I've searched the web but can't seem to find anything.- Thx. - Rick #40956 Southampton, Ont=0A=0A

Use #8 nutplates with flat head hardware. If your vee dipole is going to be forward like mine then the two holes in front are closer together than the two in the rear. Here is the dimensions: Distance between two front holes= 1.000"; dist between two rear holes= 1.300"; dist between front set and rear set of holes= 1.625"; you will need 0.575" hole for connector that will be drilled 0.865" from front set of holes and 0.760" from rear set of holes. Connector hole is centered left to right. -------- Wayne Gillispie, A&P 5/93, PPC 10/08 Grayson, KY Bldr# 40983 Ord complete kit 8/24/09; DB Sch del 11/20/09 Emp 12/01/09-3/14/10 332 hrs Wings 3/14/10-9/18/10 360 hrs Fuselage 9/21/10- Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=318195#318195

Subject: door safety latch
Has anyone come up with a cool CNC machined replacement for the C1018 safety latch that Vans provides for the door service bulletin? Can I buy a couple? I also wonder why the latch is installed in the center of the door, instead of the front, near the handle. Maybe the idea is that the rear seat pax can reach it there, with an unconscious co-pilot after a wreck. But the forward location would allow the front seater to reach it without turning or reaching behind them during normal ops or an emergency. Also the fact that it is forward would maybe provide more security for it's designed function, that is keeping the door from opening and flying off the airplane. If the door is held in the center, due to the failure of the primary latches, it could flex quite a bit, and maybe catch the wind enough to tear off the airplane. If the safety latch is forward, then the small partial opening in the front should not allow the air to get behind the door, flex it, and create havoc. Anyone deviate from the plans? I'm getting ready to cut some holes, and would like a discussion on this. Doors are kicking my #!**? Chris Hukill

Just in time. I installed a copper strip antenna in my cabin top when I built my plane and it works fine when I am going to or from the VOR, but I was having some problems with it on the localizer north of Reno, NV. I was getting an erratic signal in the turns - way out from the localizer, so I am installing a regular cat whiskers on my underbelly. I got a RAMI antenna which looks nice and was reasonably priced from Vans web site. But I need some suggestions on placement. I prefer that the "whiskers" do not stick out. Any help will be appreciated ! :) -------- See you OSH '11 Q/B - flying 1 yr+ Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=318208#318208

I put mine under the fuselage, below horizontal stabilizer where it is protected by the stabilizer. Also, if birds decide to perch on the antenna, you will get the droppings on the ground and not on the plane. Do not archive On Nov 4, 2010, at 7:26 PM, AirMike wrote: > > Just in time. Mike, I had a discussion with my current avionics guy (25 years experience) at Brant Aero (CYFD), which happens to be right beside Aircraft Spruce Can ada.- His opinion is that for the money the cats whisker (Comant) antenna is a great deal and performer.- Having said that the Rami is even less e xpensive.- I never discussed the Rami with my guy, but do know that the C omant has the balun built into the antenna- and I don't believe the Rami does.- Not sure how or if that's-important. - Rick #40956 --- On Fri, 11/5/10, AirMike <Mikeabel@Pacbell.net> wrote: From: AirMike <Mikeabel@Pacbell.net> Subject: RV10-List: Re: Nav antenna's Received: Friday, November 5, 2010, 2:26 AM Just in time. HI chris, I have about 20 made up solid aluminum, just haven=99t set it up on the website yet. 20 bucks shipped for the pair.(con-us) it=99s made to drop in. I=99ve also been testing a few (many) automated latch ideas and think I have a solution that will drop into the vans third latch cutout, won=99t have to cut the door rod, and adds very little resistance. it=99s a slow process, (honestly, I took a break to finish the rear seat upholstery) but I promised many builders a less expensive alternative.
