My friend across the hanger row had both of his steps crack at the upper weld; I had the passenger weld crack at the same spot on my 'nine'. I removed mine (no small feat --- address this possibility during construction for access!!!) took mine to a real professional welder. Told him I wanted a gusset added for strength on the repair weld. He studied it for awhile and said he wouldn't advise it. Something about transfer of force and it would just crack again somewhere else. He rewelded it and said I probably wouldn't have any further cracks, and I haven't. Called Van's and guess what? They hadn't heard of the problem. Chuck Subject: Re: RV10-List: Step Yep these steps from Vans are problematic, A Friend had his step on a RV-7 fail also. The welds are not strong enough!! But if you were to do that, why take it apart in the first place. MT Propeller says it is a "bad thing" to just change the location of the governor arm on the splined shaft. Of course, MT Propeller and MT Propeller USA do this themselves when they set up the governor. But they each have a $50,000 governor flow bench to set the governor properly. BTW, your MT Governor can be shipped to MT Propeller USA to be set properly for the IO-540 engine you have. Van's Aircraft sells new Lycomng engines which are wide deck IO-540 engines with a 0.947:1 gear ratio to drive the governor. Van's aircraft sells new MT governors set for the narrow deck IO-540 engine which has a 0.895:1 gear ratio. So the new MT governor on the new Lycoming IO-540 engine will only allowabout 2550 RPM maximum. MT Propeller USA can set up you new MT governor from Van's Aircraft so it will be very close to 2700 RPM maximum. Please remember that the propeller low pitch stop should limit the engine to between 2600 and 2650 RPM on a full throttle static runup. Changing the governor settingshouldnot change the full throttle static RPM if the low pitch propeller.stop is set properly. Also, by chance I thought that it might be a star drive and it isn't that either, at least not in standard sizes. Does anyone know what tool will losen this set screw and is the set screw standard clockwise rotation for tightening and counterclockwise for loosening.?? Due to a change in plans, these servos are no longer needed. The servos were mounted in the -10 project, but they have not flown yet. The sale includes the original Trutrak box, foam packaging, color print install "instructions" (basically just color prints) and mounting hardware for the right wing and the pitch mount. I am asking $1,970 or OBO, which includes shipping. Trutrak list is $2,250. Thanks for looking, and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
