Subject: iPad users - something you'll want
There are enough iPad users here, I wanted to pass this on... Whenever I read the reviews of iPad from places such as Aviation Consumer, I see one thing that's often listed as a negative, and I'd have to agree, is that the screen is awful full of glare. It's way too reflective, being smooth glass. Years ago, I researched the best screen protector for a palm pilot, and ran across the name "Brando". Tried it and was thrilled at how incredibly durable it is. So, when I got an iPhone, I checked, and sure enough they made them for the iphone. Immediately I ordered one and was MUCH happier with my iphone. People at work saw them, and they had been trying cheaper, flimsier screen protectors, and they had to have them too...so I started ordering them for everyone, taking a list of who wanted them. Everyone has been loving them. Then, when I got the iPad, I checked again, and sure enough, they made them for the ipad too. the P/N is SAGSP054200 if you google it. http://shop.brando.com/bw-pda-screen-protector-ipad-_p04323c1193d046.htm You actually order them from I think Hong Kong, but shipping is like $3 per order, no matter how many you get. They do make the iPad a whole different device in the cockpit. Your finger slides better on them, and the glare is way better. I have had one literally save my iphone screen from awful destruction when I stepped on it face down on the gritty wing-walk on my plane. So, I buy them for all of my portable devices, and even cut them for my garmin Nuvi. You have to be EXTREMELY clean, and dust free, and be VERY careful when you apply them. They are reposition-able, and easily removable with no ill effects, but, if you get ANY dust or bubbles under them, you won't be happy. I have done many with no problem. The iPad, being larger, was the hardest one for me. For iPhone I order a spare to keep on hand in case I mess up, so I always have one on the shelf. for the iPad, they're $18 and I think I may have ordered a spare but haven't used it yet. Been in use now for well over a year and it's still as nice as when I got it. So, if you're an iPad user, you should consider giving it a try. It will definitely help a lot with the in-cockpit sunny glare. -- Tim Olson - RV-10 N104CD do not archive

As a person who has ben in the retail hardware business for over 50 years, I can assure you that tools purchased from cut rate importers will usually produce poor low grade results. Buy tools from your local hardware and machine tool suppliers of american made products and you will not be dissapointed. Link didn't work for me, but here it is I think? http://shop.brando.com/bw-pda-screen-protector-ipad-_p4323c19d8.html I have tried a bunch of different screen protectors for the iPad. I knew I wanted/needed anti-glare, but have been unable to find one that I like. The problem I have with them all is that they have that rainbow or weird effect. It almost looks like iridescent pixels or something. Not quite sure how to explain it. It makes it very annoying to try and read something with a white background. Even reading the sectional charts in ForeFlight was hard with those weird rainbow pixels. Does the Brando version have this weird rainbow pixel effect? -Sean #40303 On 12/22/10 9:28 AM, Tim Olson wrote: > > There are enough iPad users here, I wanted to pass this on... > > Whenever I read the reviews of iPad from places such as > Aviation Consumer, I see one thing that's often listed as > a negative, and I'd have to agree, is that the screen is > awful full of glare. As long as it's that p/n, I think it's on a few different web links. Beware of one thing though, they do make one that isn't anti-glare for some devices. So get one that says anti-glare. Deems, I don't know anything about the Boxwave protector, sorry. If there's something better, I'd love to see it....but I only have seen these Brando ones first hand. Sean, I haven't really seen any rainbow effect with these. I know what you mean though...some of the more clear ones I've seen that. These are pretty invisible with the screen on, and they look dull black with it off. The only thing that makes them look real bad is if you get lint underneath...you WON'T be happy with bubbles and lint. I blow it off with compressed air, inhale and hold my breath, work short sleeve shirts on clean tabletops, and everything I can to make sure that it's dust-free when I apply them. They CAN be washed under water and re-applied if you mess up, but getting the lint off of it is a chore, so if you get more than a couple specs, it's tough. For what it's worth, for Chelton users, the anti-glare can be rubbed off, and there are now literally dozens of people with these on their EFIS too. They're almost invisible and you could write on them with a pen and not hurt the screen when you're done. It's really easy to apply films of almost any kind if you use some soapy water to wet the screen (or whatever is underneath the film) and then use a squeegee to remove the excess water, air bubbles etc. A credit card works good as a squeegee if you keep the angle small. You still need to get everything lint-free. Linn On 12/22/2010 10:28 AM, Tim Olson wrote: snip > You have to be EXTREMELY clean, and dust free, and be VERY > careful when you apply them. Subject: FYI Aircraft Spruce offers USPS shipping
    From: "jchang10" <jc-matronics_rv10@jline.com>
I just noticed this when placing an order to Aircraft Spruce just now. They now offer USPS as a shipping option, which wasn't available the last time I ordered a few weeks ago. They actually gave me a $1.22 USPS First class mail shipping option for some wire! That's great news. Before the USPS option, it would have been UPS for $7, which is probably their minimum shipping charge. Actually, I think I confused AS with another vendor. AS has been offering USPS as a shipping option for some time now. I was just surprised by a $1.22 shipping charge, which is the lowest I have ever seen. Jae Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=324141#324141

They work seem to work well. I'm planning on installing them in my RV-10, but haven't yet. So far, the best pricing I've found is through Van's. Van's price even beat AeroLEDS OSH show special. bob -------- Bob Leffler N410BL - Finish RV-10 #40684 http://mykitlog.com/rleffler Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=324153#324153

As a software engineer and pilot, flightprep has no case, unfortunately it will require $$$ for runwayfinder to beat this unlawful money grab by flightprep in our inept legal system. boycottflightprep.com cjay Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=324176#324176

Cool cjay, thanks for putting the link to http://boycottflightprep.com out there. I didn't know there was such a place but I can totally see that it deserves to be known, because many good flight planning websites are going to be lost if for nothing else than the fear of the lawsuit. I used to think they had an OK product. Now I just hope they go under quickly. Would be nice to see that such idiocy is rewarded by total failure....and quick, before we lose too many other good vendors. I have the AeroSun 1600 in the wingtips on my Glastar, I mainly use it as recognition lights and they are hard to beat with their wig wag. For landing Taxilight they light up a lot but can not concur with the 50W HID in the cowling. However they ahave a few new rund LED lights on their site with up to 17000lumen, that is a lot of light! Mounting and in service no problem at all, beautiful US made quality I can recommend.
