G3i can take the place of Slick Start. Mounted mine right of center on the upper
firewall.

firewall might interfere with accessing the oil filter. Thus, the right top
is seemingly the best choice for me.

Subject: | Riveting leading edges to wings |
I'm almost ready to rivet the leading edges to the main wing spar. We
are given the option of using LP4-3's on the outboard two ribs. It
looks like this will be quite a bit easier than using the AN470AD4-5's.
Has anybody used the LP4-3's? If so, are you satisfied with the
results. Are there any drawbacks to using the pulled vs. the driven
rivets.
Also, on Tim's site he mentions that the LP4-3's seemed a bit short. Do
I need to get longer rivets or do the -3's work good?
Thanks in advance,
Bill

I went the LP4-3 route and they turned out fine. I wasn't originally but when
the time came I just felt shooting the solid rivets was an aggravation fest waiting
to happen and chose the easier method. No regrets whatsoever.

LP4-3's for mine. If Van's engineers give me the option and the chances of making
a mistake with an offset rivet set are high, I will go with pop rivets. I keep
several CherryMax rivets of every size from 1-5(univ & csk) for those most
likely places to screw up. I would not want to build the entire plane with LP4-3,
CS4-4, or CherryMax because it would probably weigh 50 lbs more and cost
several thousand more.
