Do you know if the step material is 4130?
And to answer the other question, the guy didn't injure himself. Just
dropped straight down. Didn't hit the flap edge. He never got up that
far. I was thinking about the tipping issue when he climbed in.

David,
(Sorry for the thread high-jack everyone), would you mind posting some more details
on the handle (where to buy, how you installed, etc)?
Thanks,

I decided to start this instead of continuing to hijack the Step thread. I cannot
find any close up photo's of my handles. Here is one from a distance that shows
the location very clearly. These are just cabinet or door pulls from the
Home Depot aviation department. Drilled through the cabin top and installed with
stainless screws. The screw heads are now covered by my headliner.

For those keeping track, another joins the flying ranks. I posted on the
Van's first flight page and thought I would post here as well. Although I
don't post much, I follow the posts daily and appreciate the wealth of
knowledge. Thanks to all who have gone before me!
I am pleased to announce that N253RV made its first flight with
Owner/Builder on board Sunday evening Jan 22, 2011 out of KDQH (Douglas,
GA). The flight was very un-eventful - as I had hoped it would be. The
actual first flight (test pilot in command) uncovered an electronic ignition
timing issue (builder induced) that generated high engine temps. This now
resolved - things are looking great.
The aircraft is powered by a first time rebuild IO540 (LightSpeed electronic
ign. + Magneto) with the Hartzell constant speed prop. The panel centers
around a twin Chelton EFIS, AF3400 Engine Monitor, PMA8000 Audio, TruTrak
Digiflight II A/P, and Garmin SL30/40 nav/coms. Panel by Stein Aircraft and
interior by Flightline interiors. The frame was quick build wings and all
else standard. The total projects weighed in at 1698# w/o paint.
I would like to thank a few folks: My wife and riveter Donya who has named
the plane "The Mistress". Stein who really came through with a beautiful
panel in the midst of the D2A fiasco. Vic Syracuse - DAR and initial test
pilot, and David Maib who provided some additional last minute transitional
stick time, and the whole group of folks on the RV-10 Matronics list.
Thanks to all!

Subject: | Speaking of Ray Allen Servos |
Hi Ben
I have done this for one of my rudder trim servo and POS12 flap position
indicator. 'Lectric Bob's method was easy enough to do. I also mounted a CPC
9 pin connector on my elevator tim bracket for that servo. I borrowed this
idea from another builders site ( I can't remember whose). I like the CPC in
that loaction as it is easy to install / remove the connection.
Cheers

Another method for the ray allen servo wires for those that might not have
seen it http://www.aeroelectric.com/articles/macservo/macservo.html With
the E6000 and heat shrink it provides very effective strain relief. If you
go to the trouble of trimming the db-9 connectors metal shells the whole
assembly is very lite.

Hi Linn
A small but perhaps important question. What kind of lug do you attach?
Crimp on ring terminal?
Usually. I put a little (1/2") heat shrink on the braid, crimp the
terminal, and then do the shrinking. Don't cheap out on the crimp
connectors, and use a good crimper.
Hammers and vice grips don't hack it. Not saying you'd do that, but you'd
be surprised how many do.
