It tells us to leave every 10th hole uncountersunk for alignment issues (these holes are countersunk and riveted later, after proseal has cured). I guess I just don't understand why it's asking us to do this. Everything is final drilled and should line up perfectly. Is it just because of the added mess of the proseal??? Is this necessary to do or has anyone just countersunk all of them at once. Seems to me that countersinking and riveting after the proseal has cured is a sure way to try to make the tank leak. Thanks Bill ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:46:51 AM PST US Subject: RV10-List: Re: countersinking baffle holes From: "rv10flyer" A dimple or machine countersunk hole is enlarged to the point that your baffle will not seat properly. The seal is made with a nice layer/bead that pushes up in front of baffle bend line as you install it. I am sure some sealing takes place around the rivets too, but your main seal needs to be that inside corner. I just followed the plans, using almost 1 qt per tank. Just before baffles are installed I thinned sealant with toluene/toluol max 15% by wt then went over all joints and rivet shop heads. Then tested tanks to 1 psi with electronic manometer.(Water can be used too). -------- Wayne Gillispie, A&P 5/93, PPC 10/08 Bldr# 40983 SB Started 12/1/09. I had added one or two in the past and just added another. It is very easy, but you will need some help. You need to get the nose in the air so you can remove the cap that the spacer goes under so you don't have to remove the heater box controls. Then just add the spacer(s) as needed and compress the rubber donuts enough to get the bolt back in place and then put the bolt in and you're done. Very easy to do with a second set of hands. I compressed the donuts by jacking up slightly on the tail, but you can also do so by either adding weight to the nose or possibly a rachet strap between a hard point on the engine and the nose gear leg. Just FYI for those out there who are getting up in hours. I have now also tightened up the swivel on the nose fork at least 3 times on N256H. I am hoping the shimmy goes down now that I've added another spacer and tightened the swivel, but I'm sure it will. Basically, both of these items are not just one-time adjustments for once the parts take on a "permanent set", so keep your eyes on them and adjust as necessary. You're very right that it'll take a few times to get this snugged up...but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel that it'll turn into an annual thing to check. RV10-List: electronic ignition I was on the phone with E-Mag this morning and to their credit each time I have asked them when the 6 cylinder version would be released they never promised a date so as to not disappoint. That being said the 6 cylinder version at SNF 2011 will be a sample to hold, feel, review but not be available for sale. The reason they are taking so long as they are shooting for certification on the 6 cylinder version which gives me a much warmer fuzzy feeling. He did say they would most likely be releasing the experimental version prior to certification but I suspect the differences i f any will be minor. I have a 4 cylinder version on my 200 Hp IO-360 that had been pickled for 1 0 years before first start. Started on the second blade. I have been on the 6 cylinder =9Clist=9D for well over 2 years. ____________________________________ Time: 03:24:46 PM PST US From: "John Cumins" Subject: RE: RV10-List: electronic ignition Well here goes my 2 cents worth. I am a mechanic on a Sport Biplane that we race in Reno each year, we are running dual p-mags, and have not had any issues with them at all. And when they needed a circuit board fix they took care of it right away. Cars have been running electronic ignitions for over 30 years now and the technology is not that new. I suspect that by the time E-mag comes out with there 6 cylinder model they should have it relatively working smooth. I talked to e-mag at Oshkosh this past summer, and got to see their version of the Bendix Dual mage replacement p-mag. They are building 2 mags in 1 housing for the single mag 4 cyl motor that came with the Bendix dual mag. I do believe that is what there trying to get certified. I was told that the housing for the six cyl mag will be almost identical as the Bendix dual mag replacement p-mag. So that puts some light into the process. So I a thinking about either dual p-mags for the io-540 or Slick mags with the G-3 Electronic ignition system. John Cumins 40864 Emp Wings Making Aileron Hinge brackets so much fun!!! They could be gathering data from units in the field to support their certification process. Although I=99ve also been hearing about how they were working towards certification for as long as I=99ve been hearing about the 6cyl version. They are certainly not without their problems if you do a little due diligence, Marc Zeitlin has wrote up his experiences in the past. Not that any of them are perfect. That being said the 6 cylinder version at SNF 2011 will be a sample to hold, feel, review but not be available for sale. The reason they are taking so long as they are shooting for certification on the 6 cylinder version which gives me a much warmer fuzzy feeling. He did say they would most likely be releasing the experimental version prior to certification but I suspect the differences if any will be minor. I have a 4 cylinder version on my 200 Hp IO-360 that had been pickled for 10 years before first start. Started on the second blade. I have been on the 6 cylinder =9Clist=9D for well over 2 years. I believe what they have in mind is for them to get to a point where they feel confident that the certified version is or will be certified and then release the experimental version based on the certified specs but maybe without the final certified stamp of approval. Again I THINK they feel they can eliminate most of the issues this way vs. selling R&D experimental units and having the same problem most EI=99 s have at introduction which is Plug & Pray, the source of most consumer complaints and the occasional off field landing. As far as issues with the 4 cylinder version that was definitely true early on. I am not sure how many 4 cylinder versions have issues out of the box today but I have not read or heard of much grumbling for many years. I chose to get 1 P-Mag & 1 Mag for my 8A and will do the same for my -10 once the 6 cylinder version is available. I know I can limp home on 1 mag. They could be gathering data from unit s in the field to support their certification process. Although I=99ve also been hearing about how they were working towards certification for as long as I=99ve been hearing about the 6cyl version. They are certainly no t without their problems if you do a little due diligence, Marc Zeitlin has wrote up his experiences in the past. Not that any of them are perfect. That being said the 6 cylinder version at SNF 2011 will be a sample to hold, feel, review but not be available for sale. The reason they are taking so long as they are shooting for certification on the 6 cylinder version which gives me a much warmer fuzzy feeling.
