Subject: | Spot Messenger Share interest? |
Hey all,
As you know, I use APRS for my flight tracking, and when you're in
the US 48, it in general is about as nice of a flight tracking
as you can get for a very low cost, and no subscription.
This year I have 2 places I'm going at least where I am just
doubtful APRS will cover my track.
I'm wondering if anyone has any of the newer Spot Messenger v2
that they would be willing to rent out fairly cheap. (I see
that places online rent them too) But, as an alternative,
I thought I perhaps could offer the RV-10 group an idea
and see what you thought.
I'd consider buying a Spot Messenger 2, and then using it
for my couple of trips, but then either sell it and pass
it on to the next person, or offer it as one that any of
you RV-10 builders could use for some nominal cost, until
the service subscription runs out.
I just thought I'd get a feel for if others out there would
have interest in having one for some planned trip, but were
like me and weren't really excited about ponying up for
yet another subscription cost. Once these 2 trips are done,
it would be a rare time when I'd use such a tracker...maybe
just whenever I go to the Bahamas...which I can't wait to
do again some day.
So just throw me your comment if you think you'd be interested,
and have a trip planned. Maybe it'll push me over the edge
and I'll pick one up, if it could benefit more than a
couple folks.

I use the Bad Elf too which has also worked flawlessly. But I am unsure of it's
accuracy as ForeFlight always reports 10meter accuracy when using it instead
of the 5 meter for the onboard GPS.
Anyone know how to verify the accuracy of bad elf on the iPad?

Re: RV10-List: iPad & ForeFlight
I recall that the Bad Elf is WAAS compliant.
The Bad Elf GPS is the only =93Made for iPod=94 certified external GPS rece
iver
powered by the 30-pin dock connector with WAAS support and true plug and
play operation. Thousands of pilots, boaters, hikers, runners, and drivers
are using it today with their iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone devices.
