Dear List,
I'm planning to visit Vans in mid October. Travel will be via
Vancouver-Seattle-Oregon and back. I'm sure there are a few fellow
builders on this list from that area or nearby. Any hints for
wannabe-builder are greatly welcome! On the list is allready: Boeing
Everest and a workshop in sheet metall basics. Also I plan to order
tools until then to get them back via overweight baggage instead of
costly postal charges.
My timeframe is apx. 12 days.
Regards
Fabian

You may want to visit Advanced Flight Systems as one source of
EFIS/MFD. Just for aviation in general, a visit to McMinniville for
the Spruce Goose and other items in Evergreen museum.
Heresy tip: If you haven't decided on the RV-10, you may want to
assess your needs and determine whether the new RV-14 may need your
needs at a significantly lower cost.

All I did to create a couple of pockets was to epoxy in a couple of balsa wood
pieces cut roughly to shape. Then fill with micro and sand. Turned out pretty
nice.
Cheers,
Jay

I might be around with my RV-10. I'm based at Paine Field (in Everett,
where the widebody Boeing plant is).

I'm getting close to finishing up the wing leading edges, and I need to
drill out the holes for the wing tie-downs. I have two options... drill it
out to 3/8 (plus some breathing room) for just the tie-down bolt, or 11/16
so I can pass a jam nut tight to the tapped aluminum.
Opinions?

I too carry mine with me, install as needed. I do this under the delusion that
it gains me huge amounts of extra speed (!). OTOH the tail ring is in all the
time.

Ed, I intend to "lock tite" mine into the tapped AL threads. I also had
mine chromed so they are staying in the wing cause they look so good! ;-)

I take mine out. I think it gives me about 23 kts extra speed
by removing them. ;)

I use the tail hook as my rudder trim and even that gives me a bump in performance.
But I install my S/S wing tie down bolts as needed.
