When I fit the cowling my engine had only been hanging for 2 weeks. I used a 1/4" gap all around the spinner. I did not use a prop hub simulator, I used an old hub. I set the top of the cowl even with the spinners. After 6 months and 25 hours of flying, the spinner is now 1/8" lower than the top of the cowl. Most people won't notice it, but I do. I have acquired spacers that I am going to use at the first annual to raise the engine back up to even. Some of the slumping occurred prior to flying. I also added around 2 inches to the opening for the gear leg. Something that will ease the cowl removal and install process is to split the inlet baffle for the FAB. I installed only the lower and side baffles on the "cowl side" of the inlet, and the upper baffle on the FAB box inlet. That way when it is removed the cowl simply falls away from the baffle on the FAB box. It makes is much easier to remove the lower cowl. -------- Bill WA0SYV Aviation Partners, LLC Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=386101#386101 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 04:29:52 PM PST US Subject: RV10-List: Fuel Tabs Measurements? From: Ed Kranz I'm just getting ready to rivet the fuel cap flanges into my tanks, and I'd like to have (visual level inspection) tabs in my tanks. I was thinking a good level would be at 20 gallons. I don't suppose anyone with a flying plane has a measurement from the tank skin to the fuel level with 20 gallons in their tanks, do they? ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 04:56:56 PM PST US Subject: Re: RV10-List: Fuel Tabs Measurements? From: Tim Olson Gosh this is a tough one for me to remember but I think 20 may put it so the fuel is about at the bottom skin below the filler. Anyone else remember fo r sure? Sorry not much help..with fuel flow and float type gages, I have a pretty good estimation as to how much gas I have in each tank...once I burn off the first 6 gallons in each tank that is.. Ed, someone on the list (sorry don't remember who) has done a calibration and chart showing fuel remaining at the opposite end of the tank, ie for a low level fuel sensor. If they respond you might be able to get some info from them. I put fuel tabs in my tanks showing 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, based on the wing dihedral, and an educated guess. I haven't verified any gallon numbers as the tanks have not been filled yet. I could measure how far down from the filler cap my indications are but it's pretty un-scientific. I figured the tabs would give me an indication of some sort, and I could live with the numbers, whatever they are. I agree however, before each fill up I look at the gauges and I look at the fuel totalizer. the gauges are usually pretty close (granted I adjusted them to match fuel loaded each time) but the totalizer is usually with .4 total. That is based on a few items, usually I didn=99t quite fill it to the top since the pump may be on a slight slope at ne fill up, I may ot have filled it up to the top, in both cases I tell the Skyview I have a fill up (aka 60 gallons) For the preflight, I know that if the fuel is showing I have at least gallons. but again I know before hand what I have in the tanks from the gauges and totalizer. I am confident they are accurate. From: Rene Sent: Saturday, October 27, 2012 5:04 PM Subject: RE: RV10-List: Fuel Tabs Measurements? I have a rough indication with the large-5 rivet used to fill the tooling hole on the outer end rib. You can see it through the fill hole. When the fuel level is at that rivet there is roughly 18 gallons in the tank. You can check it on your plane once you get flying. Just fill to the rivet and note fuel pumped in, then see where you end up once tank is filled completely. -Chris N919AR From: owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Ed Kranz Sent: Saturday, October 27, 2012 7:29 PM Subject: RV10-List: Fuel Tabs Measurements?
