Where is best to attach the engine to airframe grounding strap. I get that engine
end can be to a case bolt. Where is best airframe grounding point (should be
two actually)?

There are tags on the engine mount for hat, but make sure you remove the powder
coating.

I have added a 680 on the firewall as aux battery for the avionics. This
allows powering the avionics separately from the starting battery until the
engine is running. Then the alternator recharges the starting battery and
trickle charges the avionics battery on the firewall. The firewall battery
is insulated and is used to improve W&B characteristics (engine is certified
IO540 with Hartzell propeller). I once also had a tail down when my RF
passenger hopped off the aircraft on the right aft step with two passengers
still in the rear. I considered a tail hook for the rear but instead decided
on a 5 inch steel ring tie down.

Ground the engine to the grounding lug on the starter using the same gauge
wire you have running to the starter. The starter is the highest current
draw so it needs the best ground. I used #2 welding wire to the starter
solenoid on the firewall, then #4 wire for both the starter solenoid to
starter run and firewall ground lug to starter ground lug run. Both starter
and alternator wires run through a piece of fire sleeve under the left
cylinder bank.
You should create a primary ground lug on the firewall. Location as you see
fit but having it in the upper half on the left side works. A ground block
like this provides a heavy lug for a good ground for both sides of the
firewall and a bunch of ground tabs for the cabin side of the firewall:

My forest of trees tabs has a bolt going through the firewall. My engine ground
goes there as well as ground to the engine mount. All my grounds terminate
there.

Temperatures on the firewall are not very friendly to the battery. I measured them
using thermocouple probes and don't remember the exact numbers but it was
in the 170-180s just before takeoff. Much less in flight. After shutdown it gets
really toasty in there for a few minutes. I would check on that battery occasionally
to make sure it still holds its rated capacity.

Subject: | Tech in the front office - Part Trois |
Hi
A few weeks ago I asked about what people are using as an EFB in the front office.
My IFR refresher instructor was using foreflight etc. The downside of this
is that it is quite spendy for Canadian and US data.
On a recent trip out east, I used Fltplan GO on an IPAD 2 (no GPS) and found it
to be very useful although a bit slow when swapping screens. I had all the US
data I needed even though it wasn't GEOREF'd due to the lack of a GPS receiver.
The *free* price was a bonus.
Today I got a new IPAD Air 2 which has a GPS and a much faster processor. I was
able to download all the maps / procedures etc for Canada and the US. It also
displays wx etc.
I don't have much experience with Foreflight but am wondering what the advantages
of Foreflight are when compared to FltPlan GO. It would seem that free maps,
procedures etc would be a hard combination to beat.
Any opinions?
Cheers
Les

I have a Bonanza owning acquaintance who swears by Flightplan Go. Some
prefer WingX Pro because it supports multiple brand of ADSB
receivers/attitude sensors, instead of the one brand approach of Foreflight.

Who are you asking? I think Dave has two PC680s, which seem to be perhaps
slightly more popular than the single PC925L. I don't recall anyone using
the plans recommended RG25XC.

Many people are using the RG25XC. It's a good battery and fits stock. Seldom
do I have a problem with them.
