Hi Philip, Thank you, your explanation really answers all of my questions I had about the installation of the foam block. Regards, Ron -----Original Message----- From: owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Phillip Perry Sent: Thursday, December 10, 2015 6:03 PM Subject: Re: RV10-List: FAB Plans Hi Ron, I checked and don't have any photos of my foam block exercise. However if you google RV-10 Filtered Air Box, you will find a number of hits. The foam block is shaped somewhat like a brick and is oriented so you're tunneling through the fat side of the brick; if you can visualize that. You just have to shape the outside corners enough to wedge it into the nose of snorkel. I used epoxy to hold it into position, but wish I had used something more forgiving. I have a couple of clumps of epoxy way down there that I'll probably never remove. Using an adhesive would make it cleaner and just as easy. I plugged the intake of the induction system with a rag to avoid the foam shavings from finding its way downstream. I also used a vacuum to suck out foam shavings as I was digging. Glassing it was easy. I removed some of the gel coat so I could get a good bond, then pre-loaded my fabric with epoxy and stuck it in position. I didn't need a balloon to hold it like some of the photos show. I just checked in on it every 30 minutes or so to make sure it wasn't slumping and to adjust it if needed. It looked really good at the end of everything. The worst part was getting the foam block shaped enough to get it fit the cowling and then digging it back out. (Though the adhesive would make that much easier.)
