I too was able to inspect the area without removal of the flaps or
ailerons. I took pictures with my Samsung phone and they turned out just
fine.
856 hours total time - no cracks.

I have my wingtips off trying to get them to fit better. (Arg!)
But noticed that with the tips off, you have a straight line of sight to the
backside of the bracket. With a long endoscope or borescope, you could ge
t a good look at the backside.
Here's some photos...
Length from the outboard edge to the bracket is 56 inches. So a scope with t
hat length of reach or more would be helpful.

Just did the inspection on my -10, didn=99t remove anything and
used the cheaper inspection camera from Amazon:

pretty clear picture and adjustable lighting. The video is a bit slow,
but I=99m pretty certain that=99s due to the computer being
used. You can also record the video or take snap shots.
Most importantly, no cracks!

I don't think that's the side that's hard to inspect. I believe it's the
aft side of the spar, under the gar fairing, that requires the aileron to
be removed and gap fairing to be trimmed.

I purchased one of these cheap endoscopes also except I got mine off bay. M
ine came direct from China in less than 2 weeks and was about $22 with a 15
meter cord. Fooling around with it at home after I got it, I found the pic
ture/video quality pretty good after I stopped moving it around and gave it
time to focus in. I purchased it specifically for assisting me do thorough
condition inspections. I am in the middle of condition inspection and will
see how it works for this SB next time I get to the hanger.

Sorry, I had intended to do that. Here are a few pictures from the
cheaper Amazon camera.
I had to play around with the light strength a little and found it would
gain down based on reflected light but by running the power all the way
up or down then back to medium I could get a good look, at least for a
short time. The pictures actually looked better on the screen, but
still not going to win any resolution awards. These are actually
reduced so as not to crush anyone=99s inbox, this email is 811kb
whereas it would be 4.8mb full size if that helps at all.
I used the little mirror that came with it, it stays very secure so I
didn=99t worry about it popping off someplace inconvenient.

My cheap Harbor Freight "VideoStik" flexible scope that I bought several years
ago has finally proved to be useful. Inspecting the inside of the wing part of
this SB went just fine using this scope. The head is 10mm, so it is really useless
as far as looking into cylinders, but worked great for this. The resolution
was very good. I also took a few iPhone photos of the inside and they came
out fine, as well. No cracks on the inside for me. On to the brackets tomorrow.
I am going to try to do it without removing the ailerons, as Deems did, but
may chicken out and remove them. I considered just drilling a hole in the gap
cover large enough to look in with the scope, but with a 10mm head, that would
be a pretty big hole. Still might take a look at doing that. I would like to
have it so I don't have to take off the ailerons every year to look at those
two rivets and that small corner of the bracket.

It plugs directly into my usb laptop, for $10 it's a really nice picture.
Either snap shots, live, or video. I made little wire gizmos to help get it
where I wanted it, and it takes a little fiddling to get it oriented right.
I was tuning a boat motor and the manual called for setting the carb linkage
relative to the butterfly valve just beginning to move. Don't know how I
could have done it so easily without the scope.

I have the vividia scope with he articulating head and I was able to inspect inside
and outside on an RV-9A without removing anything at all. Took maybe 15 minutes
for the whole inspection.

I used my Samsung Galaxy S5 Cell phone camera to take pictures. I have
attached the raw and cropped photos for reference. I only attached the
right side so as to not clutter up the forum with picture data.
Turn on the flash, auto-focus and insert the camera in the inspection hole
with the camera just inside the hole and the phone resting on the edge.
Take the picture and then crop / zoom in on the area of interest. Did the
same thing on the outside with the aileron up and down.
Both sides took 20 minutes.
I think this is good enough to do the inspection. Someone correct me, but
I don't think removing the flaps and ailerons exposes much more of the area?

The aft side needs to be inspected too. The top rivets on the aft side canno
t be seen without access behind the angle close out panel.

I just did mine. No disassembly. No cracks. Use bore scope. Took
longer to remove and replace the inspection plates than to do the
instpection.

Were you able to fit the borescope inside of the gap fairing without
removing the aileron or trimming the gar fairing corner (to inspect the aft
side of the spar)?
