I did my own funnel from a 2" plastic tube a bit of cutting and heating.
Works as expected and a clean engine compartment!

I poke a hole in the top of the filter as mentioned by others, then place a disposable
baby diaper under the filter before removing it. It catches any spill.
I haven't spilled a drop in several years of using this method.
