This may seem like a dumb question.....how did you get the elevator trim cable
nut that is riveted to elevator cover plate threaded onto elevator trim control
cable. I don't seem to have enough room to twist cover plate with nut around
trim cable without elevator in the way.

I installed #4 screws and nuts in lieu of riveting. I've been glad several times
over the past 8 years.

If you unscrew the screws holding the trim system onto the HS deck, you can pull
out on one trim cable enough to bend it out of the hole in the elevator and
screw the nut and plate on. Then do the same on the other side.
