What online list are RV-14 builders most active on? There is a new builder
here and I want to point him to a good source of info. I would think there
is a lot in common between the 10 and the 14. Maybe this list is a good
place.

He (or she ;-)) might find -14 folks on rv-list@matronics.com, or start
a RV-14 specific list by contacting dralle@matronics.com.

When I started building I asked Matt to start an RV-14 matronics list.
He did. But, people don't post much there. Sadly most of it is
on VAF. That means slower response to questions since not everyone
logs on all the time.
I'd tell him to sign on the matronics list, but check VAF regularly
also.

My flying buddies joke about my "machine shop in the baggage area". Of
course one has had more emergencies with his aircraft in the last six months
than I have had in 52 years as a pilot.
I carry a 40# tool box with enough tools to do any job on the aircraft
except overhaul the engine and about 10# of spare parts in another box. The
tool box contains spare fasteners as well. The spare parts include extra
CBs, alternator belt, two tube types, extra brake shoes with pads, spare O
rings, etc. Because most of the items on our aircraft do not have "continued
airworthiness instructions", many larger FBOs are prohibited from working on
them by their maintenance insurance carrier. At the big FBO at Austin I was
told by an employee (in tuxedo, while I stood there in Bermuda shorts) that
"we cannot work on your aircraft sir, but you may use our hangar and tools
as you wish". In the Austin case I repaired a minor problem on my Glastar
outside their hangar with tools and fasteners from my onboard box.
At least a small tool box and a few spare parts may someday speed you on
your way.

I don't know how definitive that list is. There are supposedly other dash
numbers included. I see my serial number there under a different model
number than it is. I don't see the SB on MT's web site right now.

Perhaps some of us RV-10 guys should moniter the -14 list. I am providing
tech counselor services on a -14 under construction now, so would be good
to see some of the issues.

Sure, I'd say that's a good idea.
There isn't much for email traffic, so it doesn't flood your
inbox. But, I do like it as an alternative.

I signed up, but didn't see much but November fund raising and a few
questions from some guy named Tim. 8^)
No questions about double puck brakes or wingtip alignment, etc.

Just heard from Juergen at MT-USA, the service bulletin was issued
yesterday, he was doing my governor when he called. So, I might be able to
get back in the air next week.

One update that some might find interesting. I took my prop to Ottosen's propeller
which is a large Hartzell authorized repair station and distributer that's
been around for decades.
They told me that on teardown, they discovered that my "pre-load plate" had shifted
position by 1/8th inch due to the failure. (Mine was the one that failed
to full coarse pitch). I had no idea what that meant, but they said that it
was a huge deal and something that they had never actually seen before.

The landing gear wheel nuts should be only hand tight (just to the point
where there is no play in the wheel when it is pushed in and out) then
backed off to the nearest cotter pin alignment hole. At most you should
use a pair of pliers to snug the nut up. You will not need a "wrench"
to tighten the nuts ever. Getting the cotter pin through the nut and
axle can be a challenge though. Good luck. Doc

I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but...
I believe our propellers are designed to return to fine pitch. There's
a spring on the piston in the prop hub that will force the prop back to
that state on loss of oil.
Not positive, but I believe multi-engine props are designed exactly the
opposite to reduce drag on the failed engine?
