One of the nicest grass runways around with free camping next to your plane, it is a great place to visit. The only challenge is that it lies in a north-south running valley and I am unsure of the orientation relative to the eclipse. Another consideration is Smiley Creek, U87, another free campsite. It is more open and near the headwaters of the Snake River. Both of these sites, and there are others, are courtesy of the Idaho Dept. of Aeronautics. -------- Dave Moore RV-6 built and sold RV-10 built and flying Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=469740#469740 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 07:12:02 AM PST US Subject: RV10-List: Re: Vans Fiberglass Quality From: "kearney" Jae MY tailcone intersection fairing, at first glance, look quite nice. I haven't got any other pieces as of yet. From: "kearney" Hi On of the things I am doing on this build iteration is better forward planning for wiring etc. I am trying to male wiring as simple and easy as possible. To that end I have started thinking about lighting especially strobes etc. There seems to be a ton on LED options available now. My flying 10 as HID lights from Lopresti but that, I don't think, is an option anymore. I'd be interested in hearing about what more recent builders are using and their evaluation of the results. I have read good things about https://www.bajadesigns.com. Any comments? Also, my lights are in the wing tips. I was this time round I would install then in the wing leading edge. I also see that Aerosport has a system that allows cowl installation. Decisions, decisions. Any comments. That way you can remove for paint or repair in the case of hanger rash. As sure as God made little green apples, when you make something difficult to remove, you will want to remove it. Just saying... I installed LED lights from AeroLed. Sunspots for leading edge landing lights. Microsun's for taxi lights in the tips. Pulsar Nav/strobes. Suntail for the rudder. Really happy with the setup. I have a Garmin and Dynon magnetometer in the right wing tip. I was concerned with how the LED's would affect their behavior. After running through G3X interference from Garmin, I had absolutely no issues. In fact the lights don't even register. (Oddly enough, the ailerons moving to the L&R extremes had the greatest effect - but not enough to fail the test." The leading edge lights used the Duckworks leading edge mount. I found be sunspots to be slight too large for their factory PAR 36 hole, so I had to open them up a bit more to get the lights to drop in. I have been very happy up to now and the patterns I get (on the ground still) are really effective and bright. The LE lights light up he area in front of the plane. The Taxi lights do a great job illuminating he edges of the taxiway. Our runway is lit but once you're on he ground the unlit taxiways can be tough to navigate because you can't see the edges or where the turns are located without making S-turns down the taxiway sweeping your Landing lights o the edges as best you can. The microsuns really filled that need.
