Works great at keeping the heat in the pipe and out of the engine compartment. In my car, it smelled bad for a couple of months but later it had no smell - I don't know if you would smell it in an airplane. I've heard it makes an airplane exhaust deteriorate due to the higher heat because it is kept in the pipe. Also, may be danger of fire if oil leak is absorbed by wrap. Vettermans Warned me even about having areas with a tight heat shield around them. You want air to the outside of the pipe. What you will end up with is an exhaust system that does not last as long or fails. The only thing that I have heard that is sometimes done on aircraft exhaust is to ceramic coat them internally.
