We are doing our condition inspection and found some very faint cracks around the
bolts that pass through the backplate, S 602B. In fact they are so faint, that
we had to clean off the primer and do a fingernail test. Anybody else had
this?

Hey John,
Curious, are the cracks in the fiberglass of the spinner or the aluminum backing
plate. Pics?

The fiberglass is fine - it's the aluminum backing plate.

I haven't seen that, but since it's the aluminum, I would suspect
vibration/out of balance. Obviously, replace the plate. But before you do,
maybe slowly run it up while feeling the dash for vibration? Get someone to
electronically balance your prop on the plane to check it out after it's
been replaced? We've got a guy in our EAA chapter here in Greenville, SC
that gives a group rate for balancing if several want to do it at one
sitting.
Before mounting the spinner, I put it on a record turntable and it checked
out very true.
Keep posting your research results.
Later, - Lew
