The only thing Ive ever seen in the filter was a tiny amount of what looked like
whispy thread as in cotton thread type material. Turns out others have seen
this to and the consensus is that it is minuscule shedding of material from the
bowser fuel filters before it enters our tanks. Ive only seen it once in three
annuals, and again the consensus is that its likely the filter changes at the
fuel point were at the due for change period. Not much we can do about that
sort of contamination except to be aware and question the service times of your
most used local fuel source. Cheers from Western Australia

This is what our fuel filter looked like after about 350 hours. We had
noticed hot starts were getting harder, but no fuel flow issues at WOT or
in flight. We were pretty shocked by this when we saw it. It is
completely covered by a fine, white powder that came off with compressed
air. Made a remarkable difference in starting behavior. Well that and the
Surefly ignition ;-)
Plane lives in a hanger and flies off of a paved runway.
Sorry, I don't have any after photos.

I this points out that the first couple condition inspections should have a
check of this filter. After that, base interval on previous results.
I don't think it is a good idea to go much past 100 hours before first
inspection of the fuel filter, because of likely fuel sealant or other
contamination bits coming out.
