Fellows:
Some comments about our latest RV-10 Build (serial # 41862). We built
our first RV-10 (serial # 41087) in 2010-11. The first one flew
perfectly "off-the-line". Its doors, fairings, plexiglass, and wings
fit very well. A real beauty. Our second one built this past year was
a totally different story. It had a misshapen canopy which required
adding epoxy with milled fiber to get the windshield to fit. The doors
did not fit the canopy well at all, requiring epoxy build-up around the
doors. The wheel fairings are coated dark gray so one cannot shine a
light through them to locate their mounting holes (what a challenge to
guess where to drill -- epoxied several guess holes). The left aileron
is 1/8 inch low (below a straight line along the top of the wing).
This makes the right wind heavy (see Van's "Heavy Wing Correction").
The aileron hinges are now riveted on (since 2012) and not bolted on
like our serial # 41087. This makes correcting the aileron height
impossible. The only practical way to correct a "Heavy Wing" is to
mount a wedge trim under the aileron of the Lite Wing (trial and error
as to how much, etc.).
We have been very disappointed with the change in aileron design,
coating the wheel pants, and poor quality control of the canopy
molding. Having built an older model 10 (before 2012) and a late model
10, I know I would not have the patience to build another 10. Builders,
be prepared for a lot of frustration but hang in there. It can be done
with a lot of ingenuity and extra effort.

A couple of comments:
You should have received some small spherical magnets, specifically to help locate
the holes in the dark wheel pants. I *heard* that some builders received the
magnets but with no instructions on what they were for.
My 2010 QB wing also had an aileron alignment issue (mine was 1/16" too high).
Vans sold undrilled mounting brackets just for this purpose. Are you saying there
is now no way to fix aileron height issues?
