    From: "Greg McFarlane" <grbcmcfarlane@gmail.com>
My optometrist describes the Lenses in my Polaroid Sunglasses as in the horizontal or 180 degree orientation, and that is looked upon as being standard. Ive got Garmin, MGL, TruTrac and IPad screens on my glass panel and they all seem to have different orientation on their screens, When wearing Polaroid Sunglases these instruments all seem to have different orientation and seemingly range between 360, 90 and 180degrees, so that makes some screens completely black unless one rotates ones head to line up the orientation, not a good look when passengers are looking on. !! Not specifically an RV10 question but, Does anyone know why it isnt possible to have a standard that is compatible to Polaroid Sunnys ? The polarisation is set up so that when the light needs to be blocked the crystals in the display are rotated at 90 degrees. My answer to the problem is to not wear polarising glasses. > On 3 Feb 2020, at 6:49 pm, Greg McFarlane <grbcmcfarlane@gmail.com> wrote: > > > My optometrist describes the Lenses in my Polaroid Sunglasses as in the horizontal or 180 degree orientation, and that is looked upon as being standard. Not wearing polarized sunglasses has pretty much been the rule since glass panels came in to existence back in the 80s. > On Feb 3, 2020, at 6:26 AM, John MacCallum <john.maccallum@bigpond.com> wrote: > > > The polarisation is set up so that when the light needs to be blocked the crystals in the display are rotated at 90 degrees. For a few years Ive kept good quality non-polarized glasses in the planes permanently because I like polarized outside of flying. But, polarized glasses are just not compatible with todays cockpits. Even in the best case, you will probably find some reduced brightness of the screens when using polarized glasses. And if you tilt your head at all, it can make some screens go completely blank. Last year I invested in pairs of bifocal sunglasses. That you showed me that it gets less fun as you get older. :-) Tim > On Feb 3, 2020, at 7:29 AM, David Maib <dmaib@mac.com> wrote: > > > Not wearing polarized sunglasses has pretty much been the rule since glass panels came in to existence back in the 80s. > > > >> On Feb 3, 2020, at 6:26 AM, John MacCallum <john.maccallum@bigpond.com> wrote: >> >> >> The polarisation is set up so that when the light needs to be blocked the crystals in the display are rotated at 90 degrees. I expect that polarized glasses will have similar problems with the glass panel displays in vehicles for navigation, etc. I haven't tried polarized, but suspect there would be problems since both the primary display and the multi-function display are some form of LCD/LED in my car. Additionally, polarized lenses can filter out the glare that is the reflection of the sun off another plane causing you to miss traffic that you might otherwise see. Stick with non-polarized lenses for flying.
