Here is what the heavy duty large Bruce Cover looks like. It does take up a lot
of room, but definitely a great long term storage cover. I have both this cover
and the light weight cover from flightline.

Thanks!
Ive ordered the Bruce extended cover. My new home airport doesnt have any available
hangars so this should be a huge help. I may still get another from Flightline
for travel.
Thanks for all of the inputs,
Marcus

I am a first-time RV-10 builder and will be needing a complete tool set
soon. Will need all of the sheet metal tools plus a band saw and any other
recommendations. I was wondering if anyone desires to sell some or all of
their set, I will entertain reasonable offers.
Thank you!

I took these pics of my Bruces Lightweight Travel Cover at the airport yesterday.
As you can see, it is not significantly larger than my old Flightline cover.
(I should have put the old one next to it in the photo)
The bag is easily big enough for two lightweight covers and I suspect it's the
same bag they use for the heavy cover. The cover and the bag are a very robust
material. The workmanship and hardware are excellent. I've had it for a couple
of years now and use it whenever we travel. I am a real fan of Flightline and
Abby has always been wonderful to work with. But, I think this travel cover
is well worth the extra $.

It does look real nice. Great pics! It's good that they finally have a
travel cover.
Their big one looks nice too but I'd never have room to travel with it,
and this one
looks to really be about the same size as Flightlines. I take my little
one with
me on most any trip away from home.

Bruce, I just sold my RV-10 and, after building it, an RV-9A, an RV-12 and
helping a buddy on an RV-8, an RV-14,and a Murphy Rebel, don't plan on
building any more. I have a lot of tools that I will pass on to someone else
just for the cost of shipping them. I know the builders kits are complete
but you may be able to use some of what I have and buy the remainder and
save some money for gas. My C-Frame for dimpling is the original short arm
but did the job for me. I have over a thousand clecos that I was going to
put on ebay at 30 cents each. If you have time I will start a list of what's
available. I would think the largest shipping charges would be on the
bucking bars. Albert

Subject: | RV10 building tools |
Bruce: I suspect most builders have kept their tools if they are still
flying their 10's as it seems there is always the need for some repair
or modification and we all like to be independent. My recommendation
would be to find some one who has sold their 10, etc. or work with some
one who has built a 10 and has the tools on hand. Have you got an EAA
Chapter close? We have built (2) 10's and have a U206 that always seems
to need some fiberglass or sheet metal work as well as routine
maintenance. if you can't find some used tools, shop around for
bargains. A lot of our tools were from Harbor Freight (i.e. air
compressor, hoses, hand tools, tin snips, right angle grinders, jacks,
etc.). Specific riveting tools you'll have to get from some aircraft
tool supplier like Avery Tools. Epoxy, fiber glass, extra rivets, nut
plates, etc. from Aircraft Spruce. Some things you will have to get
from Vans. Thermal shields from Wicks Aircraft. Instruments, wiring
and navigation lights are a separate investment. Shop around for these.
I spent About 5K in total 7-8 yrs ago for the tools to build the 1st
10. Good luck. It is a rewarding endeavor when it is done. Doc

any known trend items to check first?

In the event my 17 year old pitot tube is toast I found the Garmin heated pitot
tube for experimental aircraft at Aircraft Spruce. Much cheaper plus is designed
for the G3X which I now have. Any experience with it? It appears to use
the Gretz mount but any confirmation?
Thanks again,
Marcus

On my RV-14 build, I didn't try to even find the Gretz anymore since the
Garmin
is out and the Gretz is harder to come by. So I have the heated Garmin
in my
RV-14 and it works great. I'd buy one in a heartbeat for my RV-10 if my
Gretz
even hiccups. It does use the same mount, I think. I don't remember buying
the mount for the -14 but it was the same mount I used on the 10, which was
the Gretz.

Me too, I installed a Dynon heated pitot after the Gretz melted close on a 30 minute
flight.

My Gretz gave up the ghost about 18 months ago. I found a complete Gretz unit on
VAF and bought it for a great price. Troubleshooting pointed to the board, so
I installed it and it worked great for a few months. Then it failed again, so
I bought the Garmin, installed it in the Gretz mount, and all is well. The Gretz
served me well for about 10 years of constant use. I could never get any
response from Angus Aviation, so it was time to move on.
