It overlaps the trailing edge of the flap and aileron to lock them together. It works well to lock the aileron. You could make one for each wing if you wanted to make sure you had things secure. PAINT IT RED so you don't miss it. To lock the rudder I made another piece of pine about 2 feet long (so it sticks in front of the rudder pedals) and placed it behind a center console that holds a few tools, glasses, maps, etc. screwed to the center channel attachment screws just below the panel. (The console is easy to make from aluminum sheet and a real nice storage space). The wooden bar fits between the console and rudder peddles preventing the peddles from moving. Make sure it is long enough you can't miss it sitting in the plane and PAINT IT RED also. A bit inconvenient but one way to lock the elevators is to tie a rope around the stick and tie it to the back of the seat. Inexpensive fixes.
