The paint shop discovered a crack on the lower backside my pilot side step. I had another shipped to them from Vans to be painted and replaced it when I got home. During my build, I amended the original plans by installing the step bolt horizontally and then adding a 4" standard access plate with doubler on the floor above. I weigh 220 and had 450 hours on my RV10 when the crack was found. That said, I am quite certain our steps take quite a beating.... like during annual inspection when I place my foot on the step while carrying the pilot seat.

Not flying yet, but I had a wiggle in one of the steps. I installed TCWs step bushing and I was able to tighten the step enough to make it nice and Steady. Something to inspect on the conditional.
