However, Im sure they chose that route because it gives them a broader market to sell to - not the same old repeat offenders they see time and time again. As far as the airplane, Im guessing that it doesnt come out competing in the well saturated and snail-slow cub niche. My guess is that it will compete in the under-penetrated Sportsman 2+2 market. The 2+2 has a metal wing, tube fuse with a composite low-drag shell, and a ton of flexibility with regards to seating/hauling configurations and can be (reasonably) quickly changes to floats, skis, or tundra tires. Cruise performance is pretty decent too. The sportsman market is less saturated and seems to fall in line with Vans all around performance objective. I expect the airplane to come out with many of the same touches of past RVs. Rectangular cowling inlets, squared off vertical stabilizer, rectangular wing (maybe even the -9 airfoil). Itll be interesting to see what comes out of their garage, but its not for me, and Im sure it was supposed to be that way. It doesnt make much business sense to sell re-swizzled designs to the same old group time and time again. This is Vans chance to immediately add a whole new fleet of clients to their already large pool. My guess is that it will be a notch above the light 4 seat wing-over market, 160mph cruise kit planes. No doubt, it will be unique and a performer. We are all anxious to see what they come up with. Especially if they made it floats capable and maybe even offered a float kit. Can you imagine the market theyd have if they offered a kit float option? That would actually make it attractive enough that I may start kit 3. > Tim > On Jul 31, 2021, at 11:07 AM, Tim Olson wrote: > > That would be the formula that would bring them the best return, for sure.
