Subject: | Desser quality control/customer service report in Aviation |
Consumer
Like many here, I've used Desser for tubes or tires for years. It seems
worthwhile to provide a heads up from the August issue of Aviation
Consumer.
Regarding a set of retreads from Desser that developed cracks "...The
defective retreaded tires were shipped back to Desser at the companys
request. More than 15 weeks after my first correspondence with the
company (including photos of the defective tires), I sent no fewer than
10 unanswered emails and placed seven phone calls, and the situation is
still unresolved, despite Dessers promises to take make good on the
defective tires. Broken promises, failed responses and defective tires
has been my experience with the company. I dont want others to suffer
the same or worse consequences, as I was guided by the Aviation Consumer
article."
Aviation Consumer reports they reached out on behalf of the customer,
with no apparent resolution. "Although the company originally responded
to our inquiry, as we go to press in late June none of our several
follow-up calls and emails have been answered, so we have no explanation
for the condition of the tires the company shipped. If Desser responds,
well be sure to pass it along."
FWIW, I've had more than a decade of good tire experiences (retreads)
from Wilkerson Aircraft Tires in Crewe, VA. I've been purchasing my
RV-10 tubes (Leakguard GL-1587B) from Desser with no problems.

That's interesting. That's the first negative feedback I've seen on
them, actually.
I've been real happy with tires I've gotten from them all the way back
to 2000, but,
I have to say I've never had a reason to need tech support or customer
service
for any types of issues. So maybe they're goon the the sales and bad on
support?
I've bought so many retreads from them that I couldn't guess the number
anymore.
It's really all I use, and they have far better life than the tires that
came with my kits.
One tip: You can request which casing you want to have your retreads
made from,
and I found recently that there are even different part numbers you can
specify
if you want Michelin or goodyear or others, to be used as the base of
your retreads.
I have no experience with Wilkerson, but thanks for the info. If I ever
run into an issue
with Desser, I'll give them a try.
