You need to measure the discrepancy in height of the Aileron with reference to the top of the wing by laying a long straight edge along the top of the wing down over trailing edge of the Aileron. You may need to hold the straight just outboard or inboard along the outboard or inboard edge of the Aileron IF the Aileron is higher than the straight edge You will see that the the top of the wing is flat and not rounded as it comes down to the Aileron. Hold the Aileron parallel to the straight edge and measure the difference in height which could be above the straight edge or below the straight edge. This will tell you how much to raise or lower each hinge of the Aileron. Make note of this. Remove the Aileron and Rivet a 3/16" STEEL fender washer (small hole same diameter as the #10 bolts and a big outside diameter) to the OUT SIDE of each hinge arm using 2 #3 rivets with the 3/16" washer center hole moved either up or down from the original hinge holes the amount each end of the Aileron was above or below the wing surface as noted above. The hinge arms are made of STEEL not ALUMINUM. Don't use a piece of ALUMINUM. Its hole will wear out with time. Then using the washer hole as a guide drill through each hinge arm. You will now have the Aileron moved up or down in the hinge arms to make the Aileron top surface match the top surface of the wing. This is proper Aileron alignment to assure minimal drag and avoid a "Heavy Wing" Reinstall the Aileron using the original 3/16" bolts (hinge pins) and check the other clearances and measurements I noted in my "Wing Mounting and Rigging" and Vans instructions. You will have a nice flying FAST airplane. Note: You will have to clamp the washers to the hinge arms SECURELY so they can't possible move when you drill the rivet holes to rivet the washers on the hinge arms. I would recommend a couple of small Vise Grip pliers and an extra hand or Vise to hold things.
